New to Metaverse - some questions

I have played GC2 several times on my friends' PC, but I only recently got a method of paying for a copy (Ultimate) of the game myself. I was thinking of starting by playing a metaverse game. I have a few questions:

1. After I log into the metaverse and start a game, do I need to stay connected to it while playing?

2. What about loading a previously saved game? I guess that it will require me to connect to the metaverse to load that game.

3. Obviously I will need to be connected when submiting the score, but are there any other connectivity quirks I should know about.

4. I have never been beaten below the tough level, though I haven't played much. But I am also reluctant to switch to a higher difficulty than that because I fear that it will become like a chore. Perhaps mixing up the difficulty of the opponents or using strange races will help - I have played mostly with the Terrans. So, which race will be the most fun?

My games usually take a lot of time, so I want to have an interesting game.

1. No, but you will need to able to connect to post a game. You will be prompted when you complete a game.

2. No. You only need to be connect to start a new game, or post a completed game.

3. Nope.

4. I play Terrans almost excusively. Make money, not war!!! I trade for everything, even military and planets. Someone else might be able to give you some direction on a different race.

4. I feel that playing different races makes the game much more interesting, especially if their strenghts / weaknesses almost force you into a different playing style.

Adding more opponents and less minors also increases difficulty without having to go above "Tough" level.

I would advise against mixing difficulty levels, unless you're using it wisely to better balance the game (e.g. put some of the usually strong races such as the Torians on "tough" while putting weaker races on "painful")

Well, I am doing pretty much what you suggested. My first MV game was with the Terrans/small/challenging, while the second game was drengins/medium/tough. I am going to try either the Koraths or the Krynns next on Painful, although the map size will probably still be only medium - my P4 is dying. My aim is to get the racial victory medal and also get to know all the races in the process. Or the other way round

Your idea on mixing up the levels could be a nice one. I certainly don't want Torians to get extra bonuses, but I won't mind if the Altarians get them as they always seem to be weak in my TA games.

One very interesting "use" of the minor races that I have found (upto painful, no further info) is that they tend to take a big chunk of the resources that I don't, which means that they are essentially mine without trying anything special
