Okay, I officially love Impulse and GoodSync now
. Okay, I always have liked Impulse, but this is stellar for hitting the nail right on the head.
I've been on the lookout for a GOOD backup program for a long time.
- Windows backup didn't cut it. It kept filling my backup drive because it keeps recording more, and doesn't have an option to overwrite old files AFAIK.
- Nero has a backup program - that's worse than pulling teeth, finding drivers for Vista when it first came out, and developing a fully standards compliant web page for IE6, combined. Kept complaining that windows shell was somehow interfering with it, always forgot the schedule, and was a pain in general. Frankly, Nero doesn't do very well beyond their core software. Backup certainly isn't their strong suit.
- Other "backup" programs exist, but frankly most aren't much more than glorified file copiers that frankly aren't worth paying $0.02 for.
BUT - "GoodSync" caught my eye when I read the description. File sync, backup, and even FTP backup? Now that's exactly what I was looking for!
- It can apparently detect when a folder becomes available (ie, when a USB drive is inserted), allowing seamless synchronization with a USB drive. Briefcase, move aside - something better is here
.
- One way syncs for backing up drives, plus the ability to schedule them.
- FTP synchronization - this one sorta surprised me, but it's great for me as I maintain a few small personal web pages.
So thanks to Impulse for having such a great program available
. Finally, a backup/sync program actually worth the price!
