WARNING: Very "Wordy" Life Support Text.
Iron Ghost's "Life Support Tech and Component" flavor text changes.
I felt that the life-support tech descriptions were a little on the sparse side, though functional, I like my techs to be wordy
A little more explanation about why I spent so much money was in order. Below are the flavor modifications I use for my own games, however I am not going to include my modifications to the range values each one gives, as I am one of those players who serverly undercuts range bonuses through the means of modding technologies, components and political parties. It is a bit tedious(meh, who am I kidding its very very tedious) to go through every single tech tree as well as the components, but I felt that it needed to be done, for my sanity. Anyway, just though I'd share this with you all, hope someone might find it useful.
GENERIC LIFE SUPPORT FLAVOR ENHANCeMENTs
Used for everyone except the Yor, whom have some unique text in their techs, however I plan on modding sometime soon, down to three seperate techs. Also, the Dregin and Arceans, I feel, should have some unqiue techs as well, however, I have not yet gotten around them.
0-(Basic Support)
Tech requirement: None, not researched, starter component.
Tech Research Flavor: None, not researched, starter component.
Compontent Flavor: An incredibly bulky and inefficient system of ducts, valves and various simplistic components meant to modify and adjust a vessels enviroment, requires constant maintenance.
1-(General Support)
Tech requirement:Basic Logistics
Tech ID: Basic Life Support
Tech Short Description: Enables ships that aren't gigantic in size to travel further.
Tech Research Flavor: Sure, colony ships can travel because we have massive, inefficient, unreliabe systems on their hulking frames to do that. But what about ships that aren't gigantic, that do not have the extra space to store massive enviromental equipment? That's where basic life support comes in: Ships that recieve and implement the retro-fit kits now have the ability to sustain life over longer traveling periods by utalizing a new framework of ducts, pumps, filters and scrubbers that require far less maintenance and space to operate.
All new ships being built will now have the option of including the improvements we have devolped on this day!
Compontent Flavor: An somewhat efficient network of ducts, valves and various simplistic components meant to modify and adjust a vessels enviroment.
2-(Extended Life Support)
Tech Requirement: Basic Life Support
Tech ID: Extended Life Support
Tech Short Description: Life Support Contingency Systems.
Tech Research Flavor: Continuing our advances into the improvement of life support systems, you could say that we've hit a scienctific black hole! But with so much money being spent in the interest of space-faring voyages, we do have one ace yet to play. Contingency systems. Before this day, if a life-support system failed, the crew would scramble to replace the troublesome part as quickly as they could, somtimes taking minutes, hours. Other times the ship was shut down completly for a few days, and in extreme cases, the ship could not be repaired.
Past research efforts have yeilded smaller, more effiencient systems in which parts could be replaced with greater ease, but it really came down to simple cargo space. A single vessel could only carry "X" number of "X" spare parts. With our line of thinking we piggy-back and reroute several smaller, yet still very capable systems into every life-support function on the ship, without taking up any more room than present systems, allowing for the complete failure or failures of system-critical components.
The system is compact enough that we have already begun the distrubtion of a partial retro-fit on our existing ships, though the full package will be available to newly designed and constructed ships.
Compontent Flavor: A moderatly efficient life support network with intergrated contingency systems.
3-(Advanced Life Support)
Tech Requirement: Extended Life Support
Tech ID: Advanced Life Support
Tech Short Description: Automation of Enviromental Controls
Tech Research Flavor: Adds automated eviromental networks to automatically observe and modify the conditions in any part of a life sustaining vessel. This precise control of a ships life-support systems allows for amazing lengths of longetivity with regards to parts and filtration supplies!
Of course retro-fit systems will be imeddiantly distrubted thoughout our existing fleet, however the distrubtion framework of retro-fitted ships will remain unmodified.
We now have a choice when designing and building new vessels to include the new monitoring systems coupled with a new, even less cumbersome system of distritbution.
Compontent Flavor: Efficient automated eviromental network.
4-(Ultra Life Support)
Tech Requirement: Advanced Life Support
Tech Short Description: Advanced hibernation technologies.
Tech Research Flavor: Our current research, before this point, was concentrated on improving and maintaining the systems that are in place. The systems that are active while our crew is awake, working, fighting. Making the systems smaller and more automous has achieved great results, our ships can travel farther, safer, without much concern on whether that next breath will contain any oxygen.
Until now, only large scale operations involving the movement of massive amounts of our people would implement, what was considered the extreme side of life supporting technologies: deep-sleep hibernation. A process that quite literally perserves the individual until they are needed. A care-taker crew and/or program would "thaw" or wake the passengers as they approached the ships destination. The waking could take many days, and involving many complicated procedures, and even with all the safe-guards in place, some of the passengers were lost during the process.
Our new line of research has drastically reduced the time to awaken a crew from a few days to mere moments. In trials conducted recently by our military, 99.7% of all subjects involved with the final thawing process survived with no major defects and were able to perform their duties. Retro-fitting these systems into our existing equipment won't be a issue, eithier as all ships at the time of this report have had them installed.
However, a completly integrated module combining both our previous life support advances with advanced hibernation is now avaible to newly designed and built ships.
Compontent Flavor: Advanced hibernation support systems for deep space travel.
