Seems like Spore reviews are almost exclusively reviling the SecureRom DRM EA included. Last time I checked, there were 96 1 Star reviews complaining about the DRM to only 11 4-5 Star reviews.

Not surprised, that particular DRM scheme sucks. I finished Mass Effect a long time ago and still haven't uninstalled it for fear of being unable to reinstall and play without extensive sleeve-tugging aimed at EA customer support.
I have reinstalld mass effect 5 times now and it is stil working.
This type of DRM does only count installs on different machines.
I have no problem with the DRM, but the game just wasn't up to the hype.
The DRM isn't too bad, its heavily misunderstood. One thing Im not sure about (like I said, missunderstood, lots of misinformation about it) is wether it collects market research data about PC specs etc?
The one thing that bothered me the most was the fact that Spore Creature Creator wouldn't allow me to have Alcohol 120% installed on my machine if I wanted to play it. The game would crash to the desktop right after the splash screens with no indication why. Like I said in my Amazon review, I spent hours trying to fix the problem before a friend told me to uninstall Alcohol 120%. The game ran fine then, but I refuse to uninstall my prefered CD-Burning software because EA thinks I'm going to use it to pirate their game. What business is it of EA's to invade my privacy by scanning my computer for software they find objectionable?
