Keeping functional components when upgrading a ship?

This is a little frustrating. I'm playing the TotA expansion (decided to re-give the game a go, so I bought the newest version) and I'm messing around with upgrading ships. The problem is, all the functional components are all being removed when I enter the upgrade screen. I cannot for the life of me find an option to keep the components on, so that I can see what's already on the ship and simply upgrade as I feel necessary. There has to be a way to do this, but I'm just not finding it. I've looked everywhere in the Options screen (all 4 tabs), and I just cannot find it.

I've looked everywhere in the Options screen (all 4 tabs), and I just cannot find it.


It's on the second tab, right below the option for the part rotation.

Ermm... Just to say that I'm also looking for i, and it just isn't there... I go as far down on the tab, and there's nothing except by what increments you want to rotate parts...

You may have to scroll down a bit, depending on the resolution at which you are playing. It's not very apparent that you can even scroll on some of the menus, but you might want to look to the right side of the screen and see if you have scroll bars or arrows. I didn't know it was there, until I read about it in the forum

You may have to scroll down a bit, depending on the resolution at which you are playing. I appreciate the help, but I don't think you get it It's not there. It's in the DA expansion, but it's not showing the Twilight expansion:

In TA open options then open the the tab interface then look on the far right side you will see ship designer under that there are two options the first ispart rotation the second one is the option you are looking for

Well this pretty much sucks balls. That's a pretty important feature to me - because having to go figure out all the components that were on a ship previously so I can see what I should upgrade is a pretty big hassle. That option was a life saver in the first expansion. Why the hell would they remove it?

edit: Wait just a minute. I decided to try it again, just for the hell of it. This time I started a new game (before I loaded a save and tried it). Guess what? It accepted the line this time and seems to be working fine. Maybe I needed to start a new game for it to fine that line, as opposed to loading a saved game... So ignore the original post below (that I'm just leaving instead of deleted).

Thanks for the suggestion - I probably wouldn't have tried it myself again because I just figured it wouldn't work, but I decided to try it again since you posted it.

I'm having the same problem with Strip Components fuction not being in the interface tab scroll under Ship Design. I've tried each of the suggestion and nothing. I've even loaded and unload Kryo's Hull mod that I was using, change the location of the Prefes.ini file edited line and even changed (0 to 1) and started a new game. Nothing works, I'm already on the 5 scenrio of TA and have two hugh costume games saved I would like to be able to upgrade ships, it such a pain to reload all the compents when I want only to change one or two items. Any suggestions?

Well just so you know, I got a new LCD panel which supports 1280 x 1024 and the option for stripping functional components when upgrading is visible straightaway.  So the problem exists only if you're running at the minimum  supported resolution.  Now I'm not saying everyone should rush out and buy a bigger screen, but I will say that things are a lot less cramped at this resolution.

They are a lot less cramped, but a bit too much open space. I finally got the strip component function to work at max setting of 1280x1024, kind of dislike the small print though. At least now upgrading my designs is not a pain anymore.

I have used 1024x768 for as long as I can remember and I doubt I will change anytime soon.
