Campaigns

I didn't play the campaigns until TA came out. I then decided I better at least get brought up to snuff on the game storyline.

I, too, never paid attention to the campaigns until TA. Are previous campaigns worth playing? How do they differ from TA's campaign?

I tried the dread lord campaign, it was mildy entertaining, but mostly really annoying. It was pretty short and the mission where you're teamed up with a bunch of other races againt the dreadlords pissed me off. Their ships are ridicously powerful, I can accept that, but they had troop transports as well. The first time one landed I chuckled for a second cuz there were only ten guys. I stopped laughing when they got an advantage of like 800 and killed a little more than half my military of 18,000. Trying to protect my planets from carriers was pointless because they would be mercilessly slaughtered soon after being created. Random maps are much more fun.

Yea, I remember the first time I was invaded by the Dread Lords. I noticed they had like 10 guys versus my entire planet, and they slaughtered 3/4 of my population on that planet. I was like WTF!! 10 GUYS DID THAT!?? IM SCREWED!

Well thats why I dont play campaigns anymore. However, Random maps have other problems. AI colonizing 30 planets in first 6 weeks? My economy wont support 3. I dont get it. Unless there not building anything on thoese planets. Then whats the point? If I could get past the game crashes I guess I could just attack and take all their planets...again if the ()&*#$(*& game wouldnt crash every half hour.

Has anyone tried to play on the first few missions of Dread Lords on suicidal.  By turn 3, the dread lords can invade you with troop transports and then it is game over.

Unless there not building anything on thoese planets.

Which means that the AI understands the changes to the economy and knows it should build up a population on the planet before it starts building things.

I always wonder about that.

So you are saying that you wait until population gets how high? then start build buildings.

I will try that in my next game.

Around 2b is when I start placing buildings.  I may make 1 exception in the plan and that would be the recruitment center (or whatever population growth building is available).

Yup, thats the only building I buy also at the start. The Economic bonus of, I believe its %15, is a plus.

Since the upgrade you can upload larger avatar pics. Bad thing is the larger avatars in the Impulse community pages seems to bork things up slightly. Hopefullty that's only temporary.

Oh so I should wait unitl 2b, then build ok.

What about a starport first less 1b?

DethAdder I use a Photo program from my HP printer to resize to make any size  50x50 to 150x150 even 300x300 or higher.

Ah yes, but the quality faulters in doing so.  If you have your hands on the original picture to re-crop/re-size down is it better.
