Graphics: Support modules?

Does anyone else have no problems till they add a support module - as soon as I do, the PC frame rate just *dies*.

Which one, and what are your specs? (your debug.err will give all your specs and driver versions)

May be my relatively wimpy setup, but it seems to kick in the instant I add life support to a design, at least some days.

Given that I pretty much stay at icon level just because the machine is old, it's a minor irritant rather than a major issue, but it would be neat if fixable too.

I'm on older ATI Drivers because there seems to be an issue with everything after a certain point that they have chosen not to fix.

That's pretty strange, as that's similar to the setup I had when DL came out, which should run fine. Is this only happening under TA (with the revised models)?

Seems to be - although my setup had issues with lots of eyecandy on the screen (Which I resolved by simply using the Icon view most of the time, it was typically fine in the intelligence screen, battles, and the shipbuilding screens before.

I did have occasion to realize last night - the problem seems to be confined to the session I built the ship in - when I exit and reload, the ships that have Life support on them view fine - until I create another ship, which seem to me to indicate that my initial assumption that it was something specific to the graphics in the support module must be off base - on the other hand, I can't come up with a good theory of what else would cause an error specific to adding a support module that initiates specifically in the ship creation screen - and clears out when the game is restarted(?)


Edit: I looked again last night - I obviously got this into my head looking at something else, because everything *I* created kills the frame rate when I look at it - even a small 'wormhole probe' that's just the box 'hull' a survey module, and a basic life support module - I built it to get wormholes out of my my before I lose one of my *expensive* ships halfway across the galaxy - {G}.

But it glitches up terribly, which confuses the snot out of me, because I believe the default colony ships also have life support on them, and they don't cause a frame rate issue(?). I'll look at it some more tonight.

I do note for the record that TA seems to be otherwise more stable than Dark Avatar was - I would have crashes every couple hours with DA, and haven't had an actual crash in twilight yet, so by and large it has been a pretty major improvement.
