distorted ship thumbnails

Hi, I'm playing GalCiv II v1.5, no expansions installed yet, and I've got a problem with the in-game ship thumbnails. In every game, a number of them looks distorted, like they've been sliced up into horizontal stripes that have been shuffled around. As far as I can see the distorted thumbnails vary each time I start a game, so I guess there's a problem either loading or creating them, in case the game creates them at every start.

The rest of the graphics looks just fine, so I don't think there's a problem with my video card or drivers.

Anybody got an idea how to solve this problem?
