Da Winning game blues

I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on this.  Currently I am playing in a large universe.  I have wittled down the competition to just three other races.  All three are almost completely cowed and their tech level is such that they can't muster weapons/ships that can even scratch my own ships.  I have population levels on all planets such that, given 2 turns, I can invade any of the remaining planets with at least as many troops as the planet has colonists and I have better soldiering.  And my economy is such that I have 30-40,000 BC just sitting around in my treasury.

And now I am boored.  Literally nothing can raise a hand against me.  The Dreadlords came and I pounded them into submission.  Jagged Knife came and went the way of the Dodo.  I know I am cursing myself by saying this but, I don't forsee anything changing my winning the game with a total sweap (Domination victory).

I could start again, but i just can't seem to call it a win unless I get the End Game.  And i can't seem to be bothered tracking down all of the "stray" planets.  anyone else get to this point?

I've gotten into that situation a couple of times. In both cases I decided to end the game quickly through a diplomatic victory. In one case I had to gift the Alliance tech to one race and then wait until I could talk to them again.

I have lots of games with feelings like this, and I don't usually let it play out so far. I'd rather not think about the underwhelming victory screen instead I'll be satisfied knowing I have essentially conquered the galaxy

Remember you can give the Alliance tech to them, and without closing the diplomacy screen propose an alliance next, saving you a few months time.

Thanks, Noctilucus. I didn't know that this was possible.

@the_spyder: I find myself in this situation all the time. Once in awhile I will play it out, just to see what the game will throw at me, but usually, I'll retire and start a new game.

I had that problem until I started playing "Challenging" and "Tough".

If you are that powerful you can probably win easily with a diplomatic victory.

LOL. I continued the game until a Mega Event totally Frelled me. Just goes to show why I play on Normal level instead of Challenging or tough.

I have found myself in that position in most of the games I play in the largest maps. I find that all you really have to do is pay the strongest ennemy to fight all the others. While they are busy I concentrate on flipping as many of the strongest opponen't pannets as possible. As they become weaker, your population and income increases as your influence grows wild. I rarely have to go to war, but I do for the fun of it. I am playing in the painfull level against 8 opponents, with trading shut off. But it does get boring at times, I usually quit because my victory is written on the walls.

This is why I started to play metaverse games.

Once you have a win in the bag so to speak then you can focus on maxamizing your score.

gives you a third goal after the first two survival and conquest.

Also fun way of keeping track of your games.

I was about to say the same thing - the knowledge that fighting through to the end will net me a sweet metaverse score is about all that keeps me going through the endgame. That, plus the knowledge that my teammates are counting on me, because I also play in the Metaverse League. If you find yourself needing a reason to play out your games, check it out.
