cant use custom tech trees

whenever i try to make a custom race wit ha custom tech tree i get a CTD when creating the galaxy. ive tried my race with the terran tree and it works fine. then i open the terran tree in the tech editor and save as custom_TechTree. the only things i changed is the internal name to custom_TechTree and the display name to custom. try to play with the tree and no go.
