distance

I would like to ask if is possible to see the destination distance before I send the ship.
Now, when I send the ship to some location, which is longer than the ship can travel in 1 turn, it gives me the info about how long the ship will travel there (for example 1.5 wks). Is it possible to get this information before I send the ship?

Not unless you count the squares yourself before you set the destination.

Agreed.


Not unless you count the squares yourself before you set the destination.


You can press CTRL+G to toggle the grid if you want to use this method.

Good point. In other games, the unit doesn't start moving as long as you hold the right button down. You can move the mouse around to see the time required for various destinations. This would be a good suggestion for the GC developers.

There's a "workaround" you can use when a ship has spent its movement for a turn.

Select it again and then set an autopilot destination. Then view the destination point with the map zoomed in; it will show the number of weeks (turns) the trip will take.

Me too, but the devs seem averse to a context menu, which seems the most likely way to support a command that does what we want: right-click a ship or fleet, click Move To on the context menu, and then get a pointer that shows turns-to-arrival wherever you point on the main map (use mini-map or border scrolling to get to general area you want to reach).

Why not just prevent it from issuing the command until the mouse button is released? One could simply press esc or the left button or drag off of the map to cancel the order.

Because that would add to the ergonomic burden for big-map players. And it smacks of RTS, spit-spit-spit
