Our thoughts on the issue

The Stardock gang got together and gave some thought about the recent series of articles that have painted the PC market as if it is doomed from piracy and come up with our own views on the matter.

I surely understand that the matter "hurts" but haven it been enough discussions ?

Simply put - look at MP3s , the publishers (all "major 4" ) dropped the DRM.

Anyway , personally one way or another if StardDock moves to DRM that will be last StarDock game I bought.

Hello Everyone!

As soon as i downloaded the game in 2006, i bought it straight away. I've got no other game on my system, and next will be Sins of Solar empire, as soon as i get bored with GalCiv 2. I used to download torrents and play pirate games, but now i finally found very good company without "corporate manner" - Stardock. Your job is worth my money, thanks for challenging AI and crazy Mega Events

You might want to actually read the article, KiRon.  I argue against DRM.

the piracy stuff is a crazy topic.
i personally think its not a big deal. sure, ppl pirate games.
but, if you have the money, would you pirate? no, i dont think so! and when you dont have the money you wouldnt have bought it anyway.

see, i definately KNOW how to pirate games. because i did it when i was a teenager without money and i like to play my games without copyprotection (aka "that damn cd from the cd rack somewhere in the drive") today. BUT! at least since like 10 years i didnt pirate any game. because i dont think its right and im a professional developer myself and i know where the cow has its nippels. atm i have the money to buy my games, so why should i want to search pirated games, fear of viruses and stuff? i dont want to think about this stuff.

what i want:

- buy my game
- install it
- dont worry about discs and copyprotection

I LOVE STARDOCK!

stardock does it like its meant to be! no hassles!

Someone I used to know had plenty of money but still pirated games - simply because he was a thief (same as all pirates). There is no justification for it whatsoever. If you want to try before you buy, play a demo. So you're afraid you may not like the full version? Cry me a river - if you can't pay, don't play.

Some people are totally ignorant of what intellectual property is and the good that it does. They think they're entitled to have it for free just because its not a tangible thing. Well, I don't care how they try to excuse their sick behaviour. Anti-piracy laws need to be tougher, and there shouldn't just be fines for "casual" pirates (read: thieves) - if they don't get jail time they should at least get their butts sued off so they're poor for life.

Agreed, I hope Stardock continues and hopefully inspires other developers/publishers of PC games.

I already canceled multiple pre-orders for MEPC, Spore and won't even bother on Dragon age. I refuse to have to phone in without a written promise I can get another activation on a game I paid for.

I upgrade my pc quite a bit or reinstall fresh os and with the current DRM being *in trend* all my new games would be a headache to replay. I replay games I like for years and years. GalCiv included. OH well, EA doesn't care and won't notice a few lost sales from me. (It does add up over time as I also buy gold editions normally as well.)

StarDock, keep on keeping on.
