Huge Negative Influence Percentage

Is there something specific in the campaign, or did I make 'the wrong choice' at one of the colonization events? For some reason, during the first mission in the DA campaign, I looked and saw my influence at -41%! It went up as normal when my survey ship discovered the +1 influence anomolies though.
