Someone correct me if i am wrong, but here goes. Military starbases should be built very near your key planets. They will allow inferior ships to defeat superior enemy ships as lng as they are in the starbase radius. This is my favorite strategy for peaceful victories. Get a few good planets and build ridiculous military starbases around them. This way my pathetic military can defend them and I can spend my money on a tech, diplomacy, victory. You could also go for an influence victory, however that invlves you expanding and having to constantly build new starbases.....eg spend lots of money on military production... eg defeats the purpose.... eg might as well build a decent navy


I think that social influence starbases are only effective if the planet you want to flip is in their radius. And if you did not build the navy i mentioned in the last paragraph, then you cant defend the starbase that is 4-5 spaces from the other players planet. So they can simply destroy your starbase before their planet revolts to your side

Economy starbases are very usefularound key industrial and research planets. To make it worthwhile try to get 2 or more planets in the radius or at least only build around very important industry, reserch planets. I have tried filling my traderoutes with econ starbases but i have no idea if it was profitable. Just remember that everytime your trade vessels go through the radius you get a bit more money. I would appeciate any imput by someone who knows econ starbase strategy as well.

Forgot about that one. Real good for getting those long range trade routes.... The longer the route the more money it produces when the trade ship is far away.


Never used military starbases offensively, Probobly would be good if you had high production low tech.

I like to play clustered galaxies and tend to build economy starbases where they will benefit several worlds. I build influence starbases in border areas where the AI influence is stronger than mine. I rarely build military starbases. I do fortify my starbases and find that they are a significant military force in the early to mid game but have to be defended with a fleet if you get into a war in the late game.

Another thing I have learned, at least this is the way I feel about it- I only build military starbases to assist ships. In other words, I never spend constructors on "starbase defense", only ship assist. I figure if an enemy force gets to my starbases, they're pretty much toast anyway. I'd rather build two starbases to assist ships with double assist points rather than one fully developed starbase with starbase defenses. Multiple starbases can make a defending force almost invincible- especially after they rack up crew experience to boot...

Well what were talking about is stratigic office and tatical defense.
so number of your star bases dont matter because you only have one or two.

Ohtori there are a couple of ship assists that only appear after battle station one is bought IIRC.

Yes it works real well. Even one time built a road of mil star bases. It worked pretty good up until that never sufficently be damned speed limit showed up.
