I got into Vampire and Werewolf. I did have a disclaimer about 'most rpgs' in there...and sadly I picked a perhaps less-known rpg to hold up on the soap box with me.
Mage was the only one i played. i thought of it because the HP worked very differently in that game. it never got very high, and damage was often "practical", so the storyteller (DM) would say, "he cut your arm, and now you can't use it." but that'd still only mean 1 HP. out of 5-10 or so (even at high "levels").
I wasnt too interested in the online aspect of 4.0, because I prefer the engagement of sitting around a table with a bunch of people. The ability to create visual settings & situations is definitely alluring, but for actual interaction, face-to-face works better for me.
oh same here. i'd love something i described that could be used on a single computer (perhaps with two monitors, one for players and one for the DM) as well, in fact over online play. but with VOP and webcams, there's no reason at this point IMO that WotC can't/shouldn't support gaming over the net.
The multitude of books for 3.0/3.5 was one of my primary complaints. Information was scattered across hundreds of books! Luckily for me, one of the guys in my gaming group manages the local gaming store here, and he has about 90% of the books, and an encylopediac knowledge of where to find the info you need.
yeah that is frustrating. i have most of my books in PDF format. i'll make my players maintain a section in the game log where the describe any rules, feats, or equipment they're using from anywhere outside the core rule books (subject to my approval). there are some great auxilary rules. i also put my own house rules in there for reference. it seems to work pretty well. if players have an idea they want to see happen, i can give them advice or they can seek stuff out on their own, and it all stays in a handy reference rather than scattered throughout a dozen books.
I tend to like to play religious fanatics or chaotic wariors & rogues. The paladin-crusader is my favorite achetype.
archers are my favorite [e digicons]^_^'[/e]
