I didn't know where to put this since it doesn't have to do with either PC games or GalCiv but does have to do with science fiction, so I'll put it here.
This afternoon I had the chance to attend a lecture by none other then Orson Scott Card. My school had invited him, and he spoke for a little over an hour on various topics, using the first chapter of a upcoming book as his speaking notes (I believe the title is Marriage and Community). I must say, I was quite impressed.
His main focus was how society needs hero's, not only in literature but also in real life. He described these hero's as being the people willing to do or say the right thing when it needs to be done, regardless of the sacrifice it requires or the potentially negative results it might bring; and if a society is not willing to believe that somethings are so important (such as the society) that any sacrifice, including one's own life, is worth it's protection and preservation then they will inevitably be pushed aside by a society that does.
It was awesome!
