... I hope you are OK and got evacuated safely. I've lived in San Diego for a few years now, and my condo is filled with friends who were displaced by the mandatory evacuations.
If you are evacuated, be sure to take copies of any insurance policy with you. The devastation is so massive its going to end up being like pulling teeth to cash in those policies, so you better have proof. I'm not trying to talk down the insurance companies, I used to work for an insurance company - but their reserves and reinsurance are going to be completely tapped by a catastrophic loss of this size. Federal help is only going to go so far. So protect your rights the best you can by being sure important paperwork is taken with you before you are forced to leave your home for the fire.
According to the news there are over 320,000 people who have already been evacuated, and this is now the worst fire in California history. Stay safe. Of course, if you have been evacuated, you might not have internet access...
Strangely, I'm actually moving to the midwest at the end of this month. Seems I timed my relocation about two weeks off.
Non perishable food and sleeping mats and blankets appear to be the two greatest needs of the shelters currently. I've already donated myself, and I encourage anyone who is able to donate what they can to disaster relief.
Again, stay safe,
