Oh well, looks like Mr Smug Jobs will pay a much bigger price for his product exclusivity ideas than he could possibly imagined. When consumers
buy a product they want to use it as they wish/see fit, so this "permanently inoperable" update is going to alienate tons of consumers across the board.
Whether a user has hacked his/her iPhone or not, they're going to think Apple has gotten too heavy handed and will be distrusting of buying its products in future.
For mine, if someone
gave me an unpackaged iPhone, I'd sell it (unopened/unused) for whatever and buy something I really wanted for my puter....damned iPhone hype.
