I was talking with a friend last night about the game Warhawk (on the Playstation 3 platform) trying to determine if I should buy a copy to play. My friend has raved about the game a bit and it seems to have done reasonably well in the ratings and reviews that are out there.
Not having done the demo, and not even being sure that the demo supports enough of the multiplayer aspect to figure out if the game is what I'd really want to play (I suppose it does, but I've been incredibly lazy about downloading stuff on the PS3 or playing anything on it at all really as I prefer the Xbox 360 myself), I was asking for info in advance so I could hopefully make an informed purchasing decision about Warhawk.
Anyway, in talking about the game I asked about how many players the game supports in a single game and my friend answered that he believed it was 24 total. Not bad, depending on the area you have to work in, but then I was thinking about how cool it would be if the game was more like a World of Warcraft or say a Star Wars Galaxies type MMORPG (Massively Morphing Online Role Playing Game) where you could have hundreds, if not thousands of people playing within incredibly large areas all at the same time.
I seem to recall that at one point in time (back in the mid to late 90's I think) that there was a flight simulation/air combat type game on the PC that might have fit the description that I'm thinking of. One where you could fly around in your own combat airplane and just blast the crap out of everyone and everything you saw. Large areas to fly in and around, etc. My problem is I can't remember the name at all, and it has me wondering what ever became of that game and if it, or something similar is out there now.
Any body got any clues as what I'm thinking of here?
