Having recently played with a rental copy of Madden 08, rather than spending money to buy a game that I was guessing wouldn't be much different than previous years versions of same, I'm reminded of why I've come to loathe buying games from EA (Electronic Arts) and 2KSports -- the lack of respect for prior purchases and support of the games from these companies.
I dearly wish that both of these companies would work with retailers, such as Electronics Boutique (EB Games) and Gamestop, to offer customers that bought 'last year's' version of a game a discount on the purchase of the latest version of the game. It doesn't have to be much, but considering that these gaming stores (and others like them) offer next to nothing for last year's game once this year's is on the horizon (and in many cases much earlier than that really) I'd love to see these companies offering a 10% bonus towards purchase of the latest version when you bring in last year's version.
Maybe the companies could find some way to sell off the old discs to a recycler and get back a little of the profit they'd be losing, but more importantly they'd be showing their customers some love for being consistent buyers of their products. I'm beyond tired of wasting my money buying games that I'll play for a few weeks and then be tired of. I don't want to own the games any more because I know they'll be worthless so fast that buying them is just the same as tossing my money away.
I realize I can keep renting these games, and that isn't a bad idea, but on the chance that I might want to pull back a game that I wouldn't mind keeping on a shelf for playing later, it would be nice to know I could get the game to keep at a price that doesn't make me regret it immediately.
