A suggestion:

Should the minus 1 lowest score penalty be dropped?
We've said time and again "your skill in the game doesnt matter".

I would agree with this as well although we can't change it in the middle of the round. Also we might want to consider reducing the bonuses. Perhaps simply +1 for all top three.

I think we should also have some minor cumulative team bonuses like PlayJeff suggested. Just something like +1 for team with lowest cumulative game years and +1 for highest cumulative score. And I do think that the +3 is really too much for fastest/highest. I think +1 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd would be just fine.

This would put a bit more focus on the team as opposed to the individual. We already have individual competition, it's called the metaverse. The Metaverse League should be more about the team.

I think people shouldn't get too hung up on the bonus point thing, I mean it's a nice touch and some minor acknowlegement of fastest and highest is appropriate, however I don't think people should lose sight of the fact that a simple win of the proper type in possibly unfamilar settings is nothing to be ashamed of.

I would think that the goal of this League is for people to simply improve their game from the experience. This can be exhibited by the gradual increase in dificulty level along with the gradual increase in game speed and game score. I think as long as people stick with it then improvement is inevitable. Anyone that improves their game is a winner in my book.


I'd prefer to put this in a slightly different way. Your current skill in the game doesn't matter, it's your desire to improve that counts.

Wow, Mumblefratz and Xei Win Toh! Awesome games!   

I just started one for the league this weekend and am facing a possible defeat. In year 3 and the Thalans have outclassed everyone. I'm the Yor, and while solidly in second place, it's a distant second. I might have to ctrl-n this one.

I would have personally been willing to let Ghostwes slide but I intentionally said nothing about it because it's Neilo's place to do so. I do believe that Neilo's stance of no resubmission is the proper one because that is the way the rules have been stated. Please note that everyone should realize that you can post as many games as you want to your MV character and then at some later time decide which of them to "submit" to this thread, however once a game is formally submitted then that's it.

There's no real disadvantage to each player waiting until the time is almost up before making the decision to submit. In the case of the tie breaker for game years it's the datetime that the game was submitted to the MV that counts. Note that at the moment that Xei Win Toh's 4 year game is ahead of Piznit's 4 year game because Xei Win Toh submitted his to the MV first even though Piznit submitted his in this thread first.

Any and all rules are subject to change if it seems most people want them to, however it's really not fair to change them in the middle of a round. Although I would presume that if Neilo as commissioner felt an exception to a rule was warrented within a round I'd be fine with that but I would expect that there would be a clear reason of overall fairness to do so.

Also Neilo's point that too many cooks spoil the broth is a valid one, certainly a unilateral decision to make an exception to a rule is oversteping the bounds on Scots part. However, Neilo's pointing out of this and Scot's quick acknowledgement is pretty much no harm, no foul. If Scot had come out and said that the rule was no resubmission and that Ghostwes 2nd submission was therefore invalid then I think that would have certainly been within Scot's perogative because it's simply enforcing the current rules. Even if Neilo later came along and felt that this case deserved exception and over ruled Scot then I still feel each would have acted within proper bounds, but it seems like this isn't going to be an issue.

One point I do want to make about waiting to submit the game to this thread after a game has already been posted to the MV is that if everybody did this as a matter of course it would probably be a bit of a pain. People should have a legitimate belief that they're going to post something later that they may chose between. Otherwise this becomes a bit of one-up-manship and we may have to legislate against it. You also know that you don't necessarily have to immediately submit a game to the MV to be able to do so later.

One thing to be a bit careful is that if you have a game submitted to the MV but not submitted to the league and if something happens that causes you to miss submitting to this thread then you get no submission even though it might be clear that you did have a game on the MV that fit this month's criteria.

Im glad you mentioned that Mumble, because I really thought the tiebreaker was whoever POSTED the game first, not whoever finished it first. By posting first, you are taking more of a "gamble" that you couldn't better your score and just wait till the last second, but it doesnt really matter since we are on the same team, and someone did it in 3 years did they not?

How about we tiebreak according to the last game date? Shouldn't "shortest game" be decided by game time?

I have not seen Darth in quite some time. After his no show in round i consider him "on the bench" if you will, at least untill he returns, if he does. Obviously there will be no penalty, untill he returns just select another captain and play as if he is not in your team.

1. Are the oponents random or can I pick?
2. Can I choose the number of small races?
3. Can I forbid the computer to give himself up?

For now I assume the opponents are trandom, I get to choose the small races and there is no turning off cowards.

TP is on the ball, i will confirm for you as you might have missed Tp's promotion to Vice commish.

Do as you will with the cowards....opponents are as you see fit, as long as you have the right number of them.

As for minors, since DL is random by default, please set DA to be the same....

We might need another adjustment as TA comes out too.

Wow - I report a truly epic battle: The Altarian Conquest

In the early 23rd century, shortly after a particularly digusting alien spies gave away the Hyperdrive technology - the Altarians set out to colonize their corner of space - adding three planets to their early empire. As time went by, they realised that the rest of the universe was using different Systems on their computers (developed by offensive monopolist companies). So they were on their own to research the basic colony upgrade techs, entertainment techs and weapon techs. They also started trade with their bigger neighbors.
By the end of the first 80 or so weeks, they reached Armored medium Hull Ships with Stingers. The Krynn on Wisp joined my Empire (Thanks fish-faces)
As the toursim industry complained that alien couldn't cook properly in their All-inclusive hotels on Terra, the civilists were trained in martial arts (including Tir Quan) in order to convince the puny Terrans and their 4 planets to change their cooking.
The missionary ships, carrying billions of cooks, had just reached Terran territory and the first successes came rolling in when

PIRATES appeared.

The pirates killed every single ship (my Attack 6 Flagship barely scrached their fleets in which each ship had an attack of over 30!)

By ingenious use of our remaining fleet, Admiral Bajoran managed to conquer the remaining Terrans and the Krynn before all civilizations lost all ships for a long time.

In the first days of the pirate invasion a frightened Drengin empire asked the Drath to join them until they had all joined the superior Drath culture.

Worse, our leaders got a message that the Torians had uncovered a mighty Artifact and would conquer everyone, unless they were stopped. Very funny, with so many pirate ships around!

After a few doomed attempts to fight them, we realised that they had no transports and focused on developing.

A long time later later, the Altarians were able to build ships that could stand up to the pirates. So Altarian space was cleared and two ressources of morale claimed (Coke and Aspirin).

Then off it was killing the Torians who still hadn't managed to Go fool yourself, Torians!). It was actually quite a shame becuase they were our best friens for a long time
Now we were left alone to face the Drath - who had also finished off most of their pirates and conquered quite an empire.

As soon as our leaders declared war, their allies, the Iconians - situated savely behind them - declared war on us (they never attacked and accepted peace later).

At that time the Drath controlled half the galaxy, and the Iconians another couple of planets - we had just The two Krynn planets and the Terran planets (1/3 all in all).

Well, but our ships started with Subspace Rebounders that contered their phasers, so I advanced very slowly - planet by planet - as fast as my economy allowed.
The Drath proved to be tough fighters (our equal almost) on the ground, although our people had started with a soldiering bonus and built a Tir Quan.

Plus the additional combined spy attacks by the Iconians and the Drath. Our MI5 had its spy network on full funding the whole time (very baaad for our economy but for every spy we killed - two new ones were inserted. When we had 15 spies another megaevent struck and added another 30-40 spies.

They came up with Huge ships which threw me back a little, but finally I subdued them in year 13.

To cut a long story short the sneaky Iconians didn't even manage to bring down one of our ships (Our best ship had 334 HP at the end). They were disposed of in about 3 months.
