destroying your own buildings.

In Dread Lords, I remember there was a way you can destroy your own buildings if you decided you wanted to free up the space for a different building, cut down your maintenance costs a little, or to replace two basic factories with one improved factory.

I can't seem to find how to do that in Dark Avatar.

Am I still able to destroy buildings in Dark Avatar? If so, how do I do it? Do I need to research a technology first in order to do it?

Well I have the gold edition and I'm brand new to the game and the series, but I recall that there is a "project" listed on the planet that lets you destroy a building on the tile selected. Its listed as a planetary project not a seperate option/function.

First click to select the tile you want to change, then double click on the planetary improvement on the right side you want to replace it with to queue up an upgrade. If you select decommission then the tile is immediately made empty. Galactic Achievements, Super Projects, and Trade Goods can't be destroyed!

And the advantage to upgrading a tile vs. demolishing is that the upgrade costs less than building it from scratch.

Not always. Sometimes (mostly with different building type) it can be even higher. Better check every time you want to upgrade.

That's one of the issues I've already been complaining. I could not determine what makes upgrading to the same building type vary from exactly the difference to almost full price. Eh...

Yea I've thought that replacing a building with an upgrade of similar type should take less time. Building an Industrial sector on a blank tile takes the same amount of time as upgrading, say, a manufacturing center. So when you research the new technology its better to go to each planet and have it build any new ones you want first, it'll take less time to get them all upgraded in the long run.

Indeed. Sometimes I find factories that cost *more* to upgrade than they would to buy for a blank tile. And on some planets, a factory on one tile will cost substantially more to upgrade than its same-class neighbor.
