The posters were everywhere, crudely slapped on buildings, trailed as capes by planes, and emblazoned on cars. On screamed KEEP PIRATES OUT OF OUR SKIES! annother featured a pilot in his black jumpsuit pointing at the viewer and asking HAVE YOU VOLUNTEERED TO JOIN THE OMEGA GUARD? The Guard didn't need to use propaganda, hundreds of pilots and mechanics from Earth and Thala were signing up every week, all hungry to bring pirates to justice.Insignia of the Omega Guard
They fought bravely, and earned the nickname 'The New Flying Tigers' through out the Federation, partly because the infamous Shark's Mouth was painted on thier fighters' noses. However, something else about them was a concern for those worries about war with the Thalans, dispite relations being good: the sheer number of fighters they had at their disposal. The fact that both races were willing to give hundreds of ships to an anti-pirate militia was also cause for concern, and many of the sqaudron stations were close to the borders led some to belive that since the Guard was a joint project between both races and was part of thier respective militaries all raised a question: What happens if war breaks out? With many fearing that the pilots of the oposite race would use this as a first strike oppertunity was the subject of the first United Planets meeting.
Edgar and the Council members stared at the hologram projecter, waiting for Hithseus's image to appear. Why does she think someone's going to assasinate her if she comes to Earth?
Edgar thought to himself. That stupid bug would be guarded every step of the way, so there's no chance she could be taken out.
As he thought this, the projector came to life, and a glowing Hitheseus appeared, illuminating much of the large. circular room. "The first meeting of the United Planets," the computer chimed in, "is now in session. "Greetingsss, Earth Federation. I am Hitheseus, Hive Queen of the Thalan Empire." Out of the corner of his eye, Edgar saw one of the Council members mouth, "That thing can talk?" "As you all know," Hitheseus continued, "Both the Empire and Federation have masssive ammouts of deadly starfighters in thier militaries and the Guard. To avert war, I propose an anti-aggression law. The terms are simple: following a declaration of war by anyone,
all ships not in there own territory will be moved to the border, making sneak attacks nearly impossible." Edgar pressed the button labeled YES, and after some disscussion, most of the council memebers did as well. "By majority rule, the Federation approves." Edgar announced.
"I approve as well. The law is permanently passed." Hitheseus responded, an closed transmission. The month of December 2227 was a tumultuous one for the Federation. not only was the first United Planets meeting sucessful, relations with the Thalans were at an all-time high. The Korx had not been encountered yet, but the Federation stood watch for this potential threat.
