well I made the mistake of using Wikipedia, which is correct about what 1% of the time? According to it:
The Southern Cassowary is the largest land creature in Australia and the second heaviest extant bird in the world after the ostrich. It is third tallest after the ostrich and emu.
but then...under Emu:
The Emu (pronunciation: IPA: /ˈiːmjuː/), Dromaius novaehollandiae, is the largest bird native to Australia and the only extant member of the genus Dromaius. It is also the second-largest extant bird in the world by height, after its ratite relative, the ostrich.
so...I will admit to my mistake of saying the Cassowary is the largest land animal in Australia, however it can be found there in the upper NE region.
