The only thing you can do is turn off all mega events - under Game Options on the first "new game" screen, uncheck the Mega Events box.

They're not hard to get rid of if you can get to them in their first few turns of existence, though, especially before they have built any starships. If you can find their new home planet, Amalda, just load up as many transports as you can and go for it. Their soldiering value is insane crazy, so use one of the invasion options like Tidal Disruption that lowers the enemy's soldiering value. You are out for blood, right??   Of course, it's even easier if you have spore technology.

Shouldn't there be an XML file that can be edited to remove them? I looked in GalCiv2\Data\English\Events.xml, and didn't find anything relating to the dreadlords, but they do exist as a race in RaceConfig.xml. Maybe they can just be removed from that XML file?

Dread Lords? I've yet to actually see them. In fact besides the super charged growing race abilities(or whatever that one is called) Ive had no repeats. That one never seems to amount to very much either.

The DL mega event is so underpowered it's laughable, I can't imagine why it would be giving you problems. Just invade and destroy them the instant they pop up, they spawn with no defenses at all.

The only time I have ever had this event, I couldn't find their homeworld. I didn't even see a single Dread Lord ship.

I would like to see the Dread Lords appear in my first game, or the Dread Lords and the Pirates appear in the same game, at same time, at the same place. I suppose the Dread Lords will whip the Pirates but not before they seriously stall the DLs' progress.

It would also be laughable to have them appear late in a long game where everyone has nearly maximized their tech trees. Until today, the most powerful ship I had seen was a Dread Lord Battleship with 388 Beam attack, 60 Gun attack, no defense, 58 hp, speed 4. Yet today, I saw a Drengin Dreadnought with attack 855, defense 71, 145 hp and speed 8. They would be a ridiculously easy kill even if they survived to build ships, since by that time, everyone would be a Precursor-level civ. However, the remaining civs may end up in a much tougher war over the (!)Class 45 Amalda, a planet I hope to see(and conquer) when I get the game.

And the Precursor Ranger, for the same reason, becomes a seriously obsolescent kamikaze hull by the time people have Disruptors/Quantum Torpedoes/HD Spike Drivers and can build better ships. The Dread Lords, Pirates, and Precursors in general are only strong as long as the normal races are still normal races.

I don't believe that the pop growth boster is a mega-event, just a regular one.

and the period of xenophobia certainly is not a mega - I've had it in DL.

I get them about 1/2 the times I play and they are way underpowered for the tech they have. They should play like any other AI was the event is triggered. Or there should be an option that the players can adjust the power level of the DL for a game. As it stands now I let the DL go for many rounds before I make any move on them so that they will be at least a little bit of a challange. But the temptation of taking thier very nice planet is hard to control

It must be the population of minions that is growing. Evil lords of all kinds always have loads of minions, right? There's probably only one real Dread Lord on that whole planet, creating minions left and right and making them do his bidding.



That's the problem - they do play like any other race that appears during the game. The I-League and the Vegans do the same thing - they start with no buildings and no population and slowly grow (if allowed) from there.

I wish the Dread Lords event were radically different. For instance, they could appear as a superpower all over the galaxy and spend a random number of turns shooting up everything in sight and kidnapping planetary populations, then simply disappear, leaving chaos in their wake. Something awe-inspiring, like a typhoon - a force of nature that carries all before it, then is suddenly gone.

^Yeah, sporing out that Class 45 planet. What's the problem in sending in a fleet of fast transports, using Tidal Disruptors, and taking 45 tiles of land instead of spore-bombing the place out into a toxic world?



Your probably right about the population. In The Reluctant, there was only one Dread Lord on Earth, Lord Vagath, and the entire invasion failed when DL Bradley(i.e. Draginol the Mithrilar) killed the one and only true Dread Lord on the planet(along with 3 minions).

It would make sense for them to kidnap planetary populations - they survive by using the life force of lesser beings to extend their lifespan, which was the cause for the Dread Lord - Arnor war.

I wish the Dread Lords appeared just as they are, but with a fairly large max-tech battle fleet to hold off cheap-planet invasions. Since they already have Precursor tech, don't understand the meaning of 'culture victory', and are in no way diplomats, they should be out to conquer the galaxy and actually win a military victory.

I also feel that the Dreads should have some inaccessible tech that can only be obtained by capturing their planets - like bio-mechanical hulls(high repair rate, high HP bug-hulls), Precursor-level miniaturization(30% miniaturization bonus), etc. etc.

Seeing as all races have unique tech in Twilight of the Arnor, I'm sure that the Dread Lords will still be superior even when the normal races have maximized their own lowly technologies.
