You know those little bonuses you get when you uncover an anomaly? You know, the "+1
soldiering" bonuses and things like that. I think as well as providing a bonus, they should be represented by 1 unit of a minor trade good.
I think you should be able to trade units of minor trade goods away to other civilizations. For instance, a civilization trying to use influence to take over the universe might pay a higher price for goods that provide +1 influence. If you have goods providing a population bonus that you don't need, you could sell them off, or trade them for goods that you do need.
Basically, they work like the big trade goods, but they provide a smaller bonus, and you lose access to them after you trade them away. For example, 1 crate of "Smooth Talker™ beer" can give you a diplomacy bonus, or you could swap it for another race's box of "Super Steroids" which give you a soldiering bonus.
Here's why I think its a good idea:
- If you're not interested, you don't need to bother with it. You'll keep the goods, and get the bonuses as if the system had never changed.
- It gives you something else to trade for on the diplomacy screen, which might make diplomacy more interesting.
- If there's an area you want to excel in, it could be fun trying to acquire these goods from other races.
- It could open the way for new super projects. Perhaps you could build the "Smooth Talker™ Brewery" which adds a crate of Smooth Talker™ beer to your civilization once a year. Eventually, the bonus could be quite substantial (but not game breaking - the precursor event does something similar but doesn't affect gameplay too much).
