Would this work well?

I've been thinking about getting supcom for a while now, but my current PC wouldn't be able to handle it. I've been looking at some new PCs, and was thinking of this:

Operating System:
* Microsoft® Windows® Vista Home Premium

Processor & Memory:
* Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 at 2.4GHz
* 4MB L2 Cache
* 1066MHz Front Side Bus
* 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz

Drives:
* 320GB 7200RPM SATA II Hard Drive
* Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW

Graphics & Video:
* 24 inch UltraSharp™ 2407FPW Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
* 256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS


The recommended specs for supcom are

* 3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
* 1GB RAM or better
* 8GB available hard drive space
* 256 MB Video RAM, with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader/Pixel Shader 2.0 support
** (Nvidia 6800 or better, ATI X800 XL, X 1300 or better)
* Internet connection with Cable/DSL speeds


As you can see, most of the specs are better, with the exception of the processor. Now, because it's a dual processor, is that actually 4.8GHz total? Or am I going to suffer because it's not 3.0 GHz?

you'll need a better video card for the monitor to play this game... look at the 8800gts/gtx with 640mb of memory...

also what is the price of the E6600 ?

the intel Q6600 is dropping in price next month to around $267.xx you could be running QUAD CORE!

Wait, but that doesn't make any sense, the recommended, as in, what you want to play the game well, not just what you need, is lower than what I'm talking about, and your saying it won't work?

THIS IS A LIE!

I have a 7800GT 256MB of RAM and the game chuggs on highish/medium settings... AT 1680x1050 resolution.

Eh, was posted by the System Admin on the SupCom forums, so I assume he knows what he's talking about. Sure it's not just something else on your computer?

nope , as far as I know it chuggs for everyone unless you have a 8800gts/gtx

Add another mark for chugging. I have 2x7800GTX and I have just about quit playing now, as I cannot get in to a game far enough (late T2~and on) to enjoy due to video limitations. I have verified this by dialing up and down the eye candy to see the effects on framerate and it is rather obvious.

Thats weird, cause on my old P4 3.5ghz 3gb pc3200 and geforce 7800gs+, it did run the game very well.
My setting were 1680x1050 all setting set to low, and i would get about 60fps all the way thru a 1vs1 game.
It would drop ofcourse on larger 2vs2 games. And i was able to run a 3vs3, not good though after 20-30min.

You guys sure, you have all the latest drivers?
like
bios updates
motherboard (chipset) drivers
graphic drivers
Made a custom swap file
turned down all graphic's in windows

You should try out 3dmark06 and compare your results with some similar specs. If its much lower, theres something wrong.

@ Multianna-
We are about the same then, I can still run the SP game as well as a 1v1. I also begin to see problems at 2v2 and beyond that, it is awful. I am working on upgrading my sys, as I really enjoy the larger games. My primary competition (partner in crime as such) is unavailable for the next few months, so I am not overly concerned in keeping up with it atm. By the time he is around again, I should have a new(er) system to work with.

So then all I would have to do is upgrade my video card, that's fine, I can play on lower settings till I get the money for that.

Ok, so I'm reviving this thread for a question. Those of you who have it, what would you suggest in terms of video card(s), ram, processor, etc?

2 year old PC , 2.5Ghz Dual Core, 2GB Ram, I had a 7800GT 256MB video card, just upgraded to a 8800GTS 640.

Game ran smooth on High with the old video card 4x sampling, runs just as smooth with more FPs with the new card.

For Supremem Commander, a dual core at 2.4Ghz with a 8800GTS 640MB and 2GB mem is gonna do it alright

Im on quad, and it does support it, but doesnt use it alot.
The max ive seen my total CPU use is 60% with 8 AI's and me as observer on 10+ gamespeed.

Most of those i meet on supcom is using dual cores not quad, and they can play it with 8 players without lag. Though i dont remember what graphic card they were using.

If i were you (and if you can offord it) id go with 800mhz memory and a 8800GTS 640MB

Sorry thats not really relevant since I don't own SupCom (yet).
But it does blow the doors off of most games so I'd imagine it would do pretty darn well on SupCom. Might have to add another 2 Gigs.

I just wanted to thank everyone who replied to this, I have my new pc, and finally have it hooked up to the net (already had it for a few months).


I'm shocked that I didn't see this, and chime in about the difference in architecture (most dual core processors, if not all, will destroy a P4 of just about any GHz ever made... and those ratings were based on the P4 architecture, betcha )!
