Beta 1.6 status

Fun with servers

We've been trying to get the beta of Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar 1.6 for users to try out over the holiday but IT has expressed concerns about putting out an official beta right before the Easter break.

So we may end up making the beta available as a seperate download informally.  We should have an update on this shortly.

I need that beta out over Easter, because Monday I'll be spending in the grocery store loading up on 50% off easter eggs.

Interesting, since I appear to already have it (or some wacky version of it). Updated last night through SDC (around 7 or 8 PM EST). All components got an update.

GalCivII version: 1.50[b].101 with 1.50.100 now showing as available. hmm....
DA version: 1.59.078

*shrugs*

I haven't tried to fire it up yet, watch it explode when I do.

Well, as much as I'm sure people woiuld love to have it out, it make sense. If something were to happen and this beta screwed up a bunch of people's programs or games or what not, no one would be around to help fix it. I know I'd wait until after Easter to try it, not that I'll be home to try it anyways ha ha.

Hmmmm. So the update I got last night via SDC (between 6 and 7 EST) wasn't the 1.6 beta? If not, what was it? It seems fine as I played a couple hours on it.

I was able to play on it also. I downloaded from SDC late on the 4th, it would be early morning on the 5th EST. I saw changes in the graphics on how ships looked before they were put in a fleet if a bunch of ships where on the same space. I played a whole game that ended today without any problems.

  Someone must have hacked the system and given us a virus!

Just kidding.  

If that wasn't the beta then what was it?

The only thing, is it still says that dark avatar is 1.5X3, and there is no history on the beta on stardock central.

Will there be a standalone installer for any of the DA versions? AFAIK v1.5 is the first major rev that didn't eventually have one.

I noticed changes on how ships stack, but I was still getting ship soup with alternate types of ships. If I stacked two star fury's they seemed to blend togethor, but when I put a defender over it the defendor showed.

I was having problems with the game crashing while I was a loading a saved game, but now since I restarted it and got the update, it has been working just fine!

I downloaded the beta and also downloaded kenwebbs modd omega mod 2 from his site and it works good. With the omega mod and kyro's mod you can create alot of designs from startrek and b5 . As far as i can tell the beta mod works ok. I have had no crashs or hangups .

question... the beta downloaded automatically to my computer from SD, but im the middle of a meta game. will the beta affect my ability to post my score?? iv had trouble posting scores in the past, this is why im asking.

Ships disappear in the beta--the stacking effect doesn't work, at least on my machine. I can still select the empty space, and I can still make fleets, but the ships vanish.

Oh, and for the first time in over 100 games, I finally had a planet with a special tile! I wonder what changed? I did a complete reinstall but it didn't seem to be working. Huh.

Ditto-I just had a game with what I'd consider a "normal" level of special tiles, and I also had done a reinstall. I had to CTRL-N a few times, but I got some on my HW, then struck out into the galaxy and what to my eyes should appear but LOTS of special tiles! Huh.

There were no data changes in 1.6b, so it should not adversely effect metaverse games.

There was a 1.5xxx series update available in SDC a couple of days before Frogboy's note above on the "informal" 1.6 beta.

That is NOT the 1.6 beta, but its a good update and you should DL that first.

For the bleeding edge 1.6 "not official yet" beta, see Reply #13 above. Works fine; according to accompanying note from Brad W. its just a bug fix so far...but despite what he says in the notes, ship stacks still disappear!

The lack of any news at all on this is a bit disturbing. I have been running beta 1 for a good bit and have had only one CTD.

I wonder what the deal is?
