I spent a lot of time creating three custom races to play against, including every last ship for all three of them. So, I finally play against them this game, despite the fact that there's a bug that severely gimps custom AIs by having them always set at -30% economy and +20% abilities. (Which doesn't help them, so far they're getting taken out by the other AIs in the early stages of the game. I really hope this gets fixed next patch.)
Anyhow, I finally began seeing some ships from my custom opponents, so out of curiosity, I clicked on one to see what they had put on it, and it didn't look anything like what I had made. I stared at it for a minute before realizing it was covered in Laser IVs set to the maximum magnification, and then stuck on at random.
I know it would be just about impossible to control WHERE the AI puts its equipment, but how about having them only use the smallest possibly magnification setting to somewhat alleviate this problem? I hate the fact that I designed ~25 ships and they all look like flying piles of random crap. The smaller ones like fighters and corvettes are even worse, they literally look like giant flying lasers, with no sign of the hull I designed due to placement and magnification.
I posted this in the "What Would you like" thread, but it's so long I figured it would get lost. I figure this is a pretty simple thing to implement ( could be wrong though)
