Another MtM disaster has occurred..

I decided in my wisdom to see what the game would look like on the highest resolution 1280*1024 or whatever from 1024*768.

When I restarted the game I can only get as far as the main menu.I click on new /load/options/tutorial and even quit and nothing happens - I thought if only I could get back into options I may be able to change it back but it won't let me do anything !!

Anyone got any suggestions ; this is a matter of life or death !!

BTW Tried with and without disc. Task manager doesn't read any different.
Monitor Dell E196FP optimum res 1280*1024 60Hz if that makes any difference...
