[email protected] What a Joke...

I purchased DA on Feb 9, I used the offline activation to play the game on a non internet PC. I haven`t been able to activate the game on my online PC since. I have contacted [email protected] many times. All I get are canned email responses that do not solve anything. I reply to these emails clearly stating that the problem is still there, Only to receive the same canned response again. The new serial number I was just sent also is of no use. The reason I`m posting this is it seems to be the only way to get a real response from this company.

Hi,

Try manually updating the serial number. Do this by going to Stardock Central, Tools > Register Products. In that menu use the tabs on the left side to select the category then in the main window please set the software name. Copy and paste the serial number in the box and hit update to update your serial number in the Stardock Central records. After that you should be all set.

Just as a follow up if things are still not working please send us the login.txt file that can be found in program flies > stardock > stardock central.

I received this email more then once. I`ve replied to it more then once stating that it solves nothing. I`m still receiving the same canned responses and NO solutions.

Did you send the file to them that they asked for (login.txt)?

I would also like to ask that you PLEASE stop sending me this, I grow tired of deleting it. As this situation carries on it has brought an interesting thought to my mind. Stardock advertises one of the main features of the game is that it has no copy protection. Really? I`ve also noticed that since it was introduced the Star Force copy protection system has been kicked all over the internet. The point of all this? Star Force never stopped me from playing software I acquired legally, Stardock`s activation system has...I`d be very interested in hearing some other peoples thoughts on this situation. This topic may be better suited to a new post. Seeing as I still cannot activate DA, I have free time to discuss this topic on Stardock`s forums.

Stardock don't completely destroy your computer with shit copy protection.

Starforce does.

End of discussion.

Stardock support is the best there is. In my field of endeavour, I have dealt with any number of 'customer service' types. Generally speaking, they only want to do the minimum required to get you off the line. The people at Stardock really CARE. They have a product that they have invested an awful lot of time and effort into, and are rightfully proud of. I have only had a couple of (minor) issues with this game, and each time that I've brought something to their attention, I have had, within 48 hours, a personal response. How many other companies would do this for you? Name one.
The first time this happened, I got an e-mail from Cari. And when her first suggestion didn't work, she e-mailed me again. I was absolutely flabbergasted. I can't describe how this made me feel. Perhaps this... Have you ever seen "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"? There is a scene where he is standing on a high ridge overlooking Whooville, at dawn, expecting all the residents to awaken to their stolen presents with wails of despair. When this doesn't happen, and they sing with joy instead, he is moved. There is a shot of him, with hugely dilated pupils, and a silly curled grin on his face. Remember that picture? THAT is how she made me feel.
I am genuinely sorry that you are having a difficult time. Things will work out for you, if you only give them time. Good luck.

Goldenboy: I've left Seabass a note to check back here again in the morning, so hopefully he can address your issue directly.

I`ve never been anything but impressed with this company, Until now. What other company has people(Kryo)on the forums helping people? None that I know of. What company updates their products like Stardock? None that I know of. It just seems to me that I`ve found the ugly underbelly. Since this...

I`ve been going literally in circles since.

Starforce? i dunno what that is. The only games that annoy me because they are so chock full of copy protection are Microsoft games.

"Stardock support is the best there is."

That's a load of bullshit, as evidence by this thread.

I would suspect the reason your human response time has been lacking is a combination of factors. I.e. re-submitting tickets for service, in conjunction with the release of DA, they are of course trying to service a large group of customers with a limited staff. However a customer service experience with issues lasting 2 weeks rather then 2 days or 2 hours is certainly neither ideal for the company or for the customer.

Persistence pays off, and as time goes on the quantity of service tickets will fall.

Ahh, the meat of it ...a StarForce apologist comes forth.

This statement of yours has made me have doubts about your sincerity and veracity ... up until you said this, I beleived you were truly having an issue...and I gave your opinions some weight...now I have my doubts.

StarForce's intrusive Copy Protection is CRAP. No need for discussion in these Forums on that...issue over.

if i install DA via disk do i still need version 1.5

The DA disc that was sent out for those who ordered them should include the 1.5 DL patch, though I'm not sure if it's installed automatically. It is vital that you install it in any case, since DA expects DL to have its files laid out a certain way (and will crash if it doesn't find them).

According to what you wrote earlier you ordered on-line and have been trying to download it. Exactly what disc do you now have?

Hi,

You all have my apologies for the support situation as it stands. DA has really done a number on us and recently we lost one of our number.

I want to thank those that still support us with their epic patience and understanding. For the truly mad I have sent out some personal emails to get the situation in better hand. Please know that we are working round the clock (you can check the email times... really) to have this situation sorted. It was just bad luck to loose an extra staff member before the launch.

Please also thank Kyro as he has been contacting me often for multiple problems as they appear on the boards. Trying to get my to pull my head out of the hole in the ground that is my email que can be a task let me tell you.

Should I have a break through of some kind as to the registration problems that are occurring I will make a large post. For the most part however I have found that is truly is a case by case basis. This is making things slower. Thank you again for your patience.

Cheers,

The reason I posted that comparison? I figured if that didn`t get somebody`s attention then I might as well just give up. At this point, I figure I might as well let it go anyways. It`s not worth it. I flushed $40 cdn down the toilet, Life goes on. Oh by the way, I ordered a CD to be sent to me. Am I going to have to activate that? I would be extremely disapointed if I`m forced to activate that disc. That CD may be the solution to this problem. Hopefully any further updates of DA will run smoothly by then.

kryo has said that he believes the Dark Avatar expansion disc does not have to be activated. I haven't tried mine yet to confirm that this is the case.

The Dark Avatar disks do NOT have be activated. This only applys if you have to upgrade.

some time ago, after installing and activating DL, my galciv1 game became invalid for updating purposes in stardock. It isn't important enough to bother trying to solve, but it did happen, so i thought i would mention it.

This does not fill me with confidence.

As I said in reply #41 the first time you asked, no. DA needs to have the base game updated in order to work properly, and if it is not then DA can and will crash in various places.

The DA disc does include the 1.5 patch so you don't need to worry about updating DL until you get the disc.
As kryo said, Dark Avatar needs GalCiv2:DL 1.5 before it can install. The Avatar disc will update GalCiv2 to 1.5.

EDIT: Looks like kryo got to the answer first.
