Whats wrong with the Iconians?

I don't understand the DA design for the iconian. Shouldn't they the research race in the game?

They have +20 morale, +50 espionage and +7 logistics and only 7 ability points more for free

For example the krynn have this all a way better and have 9 ability points.

Did stardock forgot to give the iconians some abilities or what happens here?

They have a lot of starting techs and a good home system (a 14 and a 3), but you're right, their abilities are weak. I didn't like them much in DL either.

I've got a real affection for the Iconians but no, they don't have the greatest starting bonuses. I do love the free colony techs, though. Just think of them as galactic underdogs.

i think the primary point the OP was trying to make is that they are (were, at least) described as having strong research skills. i imagine part of that is their AI programming, but it does seem odd to me that they receive no research boost.

ps: i have an affection for them myself.

Perhaps Stardock could add 10-20 points of research to them. They are rather weak at the moment abilities wise.
