Internet connection required to play this game? What the heck?

I just applied the most recent patch to the game on my computer, and now I can't play it anymore because it requires internet access to register it, and I dont have internet access on that computer. I can't even play the original version anymore. Thanks guys. I don't recall the box saying an internet connection was required to play. What can I do now?

Why didn't you just put copy protection on the game disc if you are going to be nazis about it anyway? Now I am out of a game, and I paid money for it.

If the machine you play on does not have internet, you have an option to relay the activation request to another machine that does have internet, and email it. Just attempt to activate, then opt to activate by email when given the option.

If you do not wish to activate, you can simply reinstall the game and continue playing the original retail version.

Activation is a one-time thing. Once an installation of the game has been activated, it should not need to be activated again unless you reinstall windows.

I'm slightly confused. I just bought a new PC and reinstalled GC2 v1.0 from the CD. I then downloaded the standalone v1.4x version and installed it by using the serial number off the CD box. There was no internet required.

Well, downloading the patch would seem to require internet, as I'm not aware of a way to take the downloaded "file" and move it to another machine, but I think I'm just confused too.

You use the "Archive and restore" functionality built into Stardock Central. Check it out in the help, but in short, right-click on the component you want to copy across and then select to archive it. Archives tend to be stored in Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\BACKUP - you can copy them to the other machine along with a Stardock Central installer, install Stardock Central, and then restore the archives.

Honestly, SD I think in future you should include the e-mail activation option somewhere in your manual. I don't think it's a problem- as the gains from your method outweigh the losses (using your method costs you fewer sales then copy protection- and has no effect on pirating)

That said, who doesn't have access to email these days- outside of troops deployed in the desert- and even they get some net access and email...
