In the late 800's, in another part of the galaxy, the Aloken Republic saw their sun prepare to live its last few months. Soon, it would explode, killing all of the Alokens on their small planet. Something had to be done, else the entire Aloken Republic would be destroyed.
Two ships were made, the 'Karavali' and the 'Astol'. Both of these ships were launched, directed at a world that the Alokens had dubbed Meb'Ieni (Last Hope). They were both launched with 500 civilians and scientists on the Astol, 500 military personnel on the Karavali, with the civilian ship carrying the people that would actually build up their new homeworld. But something went wrong.
When the Karavali was launched, a computer glitch was noticed on the Astol that would have, upon leaving the atmosphere, killed all the inhabitants of the ship. They fixed the problem as quickly as possible and launched it after the Karavali, but the problem was not noticed until it was too late. The space technology was too primitive, and they did not have the time to add anything but the engine to get the ship to escape velocity, nothing more. And the one hour that it had taken to fix the problem now pointed the Astol at another target - a wormhole recently discovered by Aloken telescopes. They had just launched the ship that would have built up the new Aloken nation into something that they had no idea about. There wasn't enough time to build a new ship, and within a month the Aloken world was destroyed. The people on the Karavali reached the planet, but without the skills necessary to rebuild the Aloken nation they recessed to what would be considered a minor race.
A month after, the Astol was landing on an unused planet in our little chunk of the galaxy. Finding a relatively safe area for rebuilding, the planet came to be known as Astol, or Home. They rebuilt their nation on this world, and the generations that followed did not appreciate the name Aloken any more, and chose a new name for their nation, the Astolan Rift.
Technology increased, and soon they began sending out probes to find other nations. They found the Arceans, and after them the Terrans. With the idea of rebuilding the Aloken Republic, they went to the stars.
