“The Shattering Galaxy”
Pushing down through the atmosphere of the planet Betelgeuse, Captain Wasad encountered heavy fire, and asked for assistance.
“Commander Arlin, target those plasma guns targeting our ships!”
“Preparing for a bombardment of the planet’s surface! Arlin replied.
“Thanks, that is taking some of the pressure off of us, we are preparing to land east of the planet’s capital. Hopefully the Drengin will not be expecting us there.”
“Sounds good, just beware of the possible land mines strung around the outskirts of the city.”
With enemy fire from the planets surfaced cut off, Captain Wasad was able to land the main invasion fleet just outside the city. He then prepared the soldiers for engagement with the Drengin troops that had taken up defensive positions within the city. Taking lessons he had learned from the Battle of Paulos, he prepared for a fight to the last man standing. He also began to accept the possibility that this could be the deadliest fight of the war yet.
Wasad then gave the order, “Charge the city and show no mercy, for the Drengin will not show any! This is a fight for our very existence, make this the battle that history will never forget!”
With the troops now railed he knew there was now no going back, this would be the battle that would determine the future of the war.
The Magarian ground forces charged at the city, taking heavy fire from the Drengin, who were firing from buildings and anything else that provided some protection. Bit by bit the Drengin defense perimeter around the city collapsed, as Magarian forces streamed down the city streets. As lasers and projectiles rained down from the buildings above, many Magarians were killed, or taken out. The Battle for Betelgeuse quickly broke down into an urban war, one that the Magarians were barely prepared for. With firing coming form around every block, Wasad ordered a regrouping.
“We are falling back to a safer position until we can come up with a better plan to take the capital!”
“I have an idea, we are going to bombard the city directly, prepare for some major impacts!” Arlin shouted.
Wasad responded, “sounds good, bombard at will!”
Like the heavens opening up, and the blots of Zeus shooting down, the city trembled with the impact of planet destroying bombs. All Wasad could do was watch in amazement, as the city shook itself apart, and towering buildings came crashing down with deafening thunder. It was as if hell itself were devouring the city from below, and spewing it’s fires onto the land. When the city was completely leveled the Magarian forces again reentered the city. This time there was no resistance, only the rubble of a once great city, and the bodies of hundreds of thousands of Drengin, who were taken by surprise. With the Drengin resistance all but destroyed, the planet Betelgeuse fell to the mighty forces of the Magarian Republic.
Wasad reported, “victory is ours tonight, with the defeat of the Drengin on Betelgeuse, the rest the empire shall surly fall.”
“Agreed, at this point it is too late for the Drengin to mount an effective counterattack, they are too far beaten.” Replied Arlin.
Back on the battle front against the Yor, the combined fleets of Serti and Brini prepared to engage the Yor fleets before they penetrated any further into Magarian space.
Serti reported to Brini, “we are engaging the Yor fleet 59, be prepared to aid if need be, we are going in.”
“Understood and standing by!”
“The Yor are taking heavy fire, and appear to be breaking up, we are only sustaining minor damage.” Reported Serti.
“Then we will push on and engage Yor fleet 85, may they fall as easily as 59!” Brini shouted.
“Engaging the enemy fleet, looks like they weren’t expecting us so soon. Serti replied.
“They are going down as if they’re shields were of no use, wait they are of no use against us!” Brini jokingly said.
“Quit gloating, we should respect our enemies…maybe not!”
With the Drengin now in full retreat, and the Yor pushed back out of Magarian space, Atarmis now thought it safe to attend a ceremony of Sokora. On Sokora, Prime Minister Atarmis is to dedicate the opening of the Restaurant of Eternity, which promised to spread the influence of the Magarian Republic farther and wider.
“Isn’t it beautiful,” Atarmis said to his wife.
“It is lovely, I couldn’t imagine something more striking then this to spread the influence of the Republic.” Lividia admiralty said.
“It is one of the greatest achievements of my term, the least bloody anyway.” Atarmis responded back.
“The war is turning in our favor, all is well, history will not forget the name Atarmis. You will be remember for all of history to come, as the savior of the Magarian people.” Livida proudly said.
“I do hope you are right, so many have died, and there is still so much to do. How great will the loss of life be by the end of this conflict!”
Lividia calmly said, trying to encourage Atarmis. “Don’t worry everything will turn out right, the Magarian people are strong and will fight till the bitter end.”
Then just when things were starting to look up, the unthinkable happened. It was something no one had anticipated, or remotely thought would happen. The Terran Alliance declared war upon the Magarian Republic! Had they grown envious, or had they just gone mad, no one knew, but if it was a war they wanted, a war they would get. The only thing Atarmis could think of was how can the Magarians fight a war on three sides, a peace had to be made, but with who. In the meanwhile, the Altarians, who had been quiet for years, decided to come to the aid of the Magarians and declare war on the Humans. It then became clear to Atarmis, the war with the Drengin must end.
With the galaxy crumbling apart, and empires clashing, will the Magarian Republic survive? Will a peace be made with the Drengin? The answer will come soon!
