What do you think?

I was just wondering what some of you out there think of this situation

Medium galaxy and I am a custom race that has 20% pq bonus and luck(I got the idea from another post and it is not as good as they say)

The Korx and Acreans are left.

Acreans are strongest militarily and have the most influence, economy and technolgy. They are also my ally.

Korx have recently had an change of ethical alignment to good and their military has taken a dive to 3rd but they are have friendly relations with me and the Acreans and have huge influence and more planets than me.

The problem comes that recently the Korx found that device that slowly makes them stronger.

The question then is: should I declare war and take them out with my military that is designed to deal with them(they have shield and beam while I have shields and missiles) before they get too strong to deal with or should I wait until they finally move to close relations and make a treaty?

I am leaning towards war because with my military designed against them and military starbases giving my defening ships an advantage, I should be able to take them out.

I guess it would ultimately depend on what kind of win you are playing for. If you are going purely for a military 'seek and destroy' type victory, then don't wait. Stick it to them as quickly as you can because they will surely target you if you don't target them. Just my opinion.

I agree, if you are going for a conquest victory then you should ht them as soon as your empireis ready for it. This would give you more resources to utilize against the Arceans later on (if you so choose).

Just becareful, I've seen many alliances collapse due to a random assaination event. It's always good to have a strong ally, but it's better to be the strong ally.

The key word here is 'slowly'. IIRK, it is about 1% per turn, so you don't have to be in any real hurry to deal with them.

But their empire is larger than his, so even if he was set RIGHT now to invade, it would still take a decent amount of time to conquer them. Fortunately, I find that the 'military rating' is usually a bad way to gauge strength. I almost never am first (usually more like 4-5th on huge with 8 races) yet when I go to war I have few problems. The biggest one I run into is that I over extend my fleet and cannot cover everything I take (usually works itself out after 3-5 turns when I get a cheap reserve fleet into the sector).

3 way war is no good, somone is gonna miss out on trade and keel over too easy.

Once i had a 3 way battle on crippling and i was the odd one out against a powerful alliance. That was a pretty damb fun game actually, come to think of it!

Hmmm...I wonder if I just lucky when I selected those options for my custom race. I'm still playing my +20PQ% game and it's a blast. I'm know I'm still a "Noob" here but I got some really nice worlds to work with.

I guess you just have to get really lucky. I was also playing with occasonal planets so that may have had a part.

Good news, I went back and started playing again and was going to start preparing for war when a random even caused the Acreans to declare war on the Korx. With the 2 of us attacking the Korx were destroyed in a few turns and I won a diplomaic vicotry.
