This forum aides me through my long work day

Does anybody else feel this way? It's not that I'm not busy at work, it's just that my job involves waiting for other people (or sometimes machines) to get their work done before I can proceed with anything. I'm blocked out of instant messenger, people never answer emails faster than regular mail, so all i've got left are these forums.

Try www.ircatwork.com, that's rarely blocked on *most* of the filters I've ever worked behind. There are a few web messengers too.

It helps sometimes. On days when folks like you, Wheel, Shadow, Marcathonas, and Stormbringer aren't mixing it up very much, though, it doesn't always go the distance.

I used to hide a genesis emulator in my work PC, works in a window and can be easily hidden/minimized. Plus my boss new nothing about digging in the folders, or what he was looking at if he did.

Indeed! This forum and the Paradox forums keep me entertained during slow work days. Then I like to double-check the Wikis for updates. If I could, I would play my games; but I tend to become a lock-jawed, monomaniac once the game starts up and would no doubt be quickly caught playing during working hours, so I must use self-discipline during the daylight hours.

My exwife had a job where one of the PCs had solitile on it. She got hooked on it, and after getting caught playing it one to many times, the manager had the PC removed from that area.(probably to her own office to play  )

I know what you mean. I have often thought of loading the game on my work system, dual 17 inch monitors would make for a fantastic game! The down side... I am certain I would miss an important message and 10,000 people would be without power for hours before I would realize what was going on. That would not be good. So discipline it is.

I downloaded the demo once and started it up just to kill time. An hour later I realized it was probably a bad career move and forced myself to delete it.

Wheel, Shadow, Marcathonas, and Stormbringer


I enjoy the heated discussions and look at them as a form of performance art. It does make the day go by!

In my case, it would be ~40,000+ workers of iniquity (govenment) who would be without email. Not necessarily a bad thing, but one I would not hear the end of for a couple of days.

Yes, we are keeping an eye on the Empire of Standards.

I'm always fuzzy, if more so during cold weather. And I have to use one PC for both work and play, so the discipline thing can be *very* hard. I've had some projects in the past year that required about 15 minutes of GCII for every hour I'm chained to the chair.

In my paid work, I mostly try to translate management- and marketing-speak about IT into reasonable English. When you have to read thousands of words from folks who think PowerPoint is a writing tool, well, wildly distracting breaks can be a lifesaver. Lately, I'm finding that this forum is probably a better thing than launching GCII on account of the pie-eyed monomaniac thing.

Unfortunately for me, I work behind a proxy that tracks the number of objects and MB of data that come down from the internet. Since I have to login, that traffic is recorded to my account. Too high a number, and I am busted. It all means very little internetting for me. Of course there are always the "borrowed" passwords...
