Stardock Easter Holiday

Missing Button Textures

Well this is a wierd one. Desktop is set to appropriate resolution and color depth but for some reason none of the button texts are showing up. I havent managed to find the correct button combonation to start up a game yet so im not sure how far the problem goes. Anybody else ever encountered this? Also how do I go about generating a debug report?

Have you rebooted since you installed the game? That is usually the problem for those who get this issue.

If it is still like that after you reboot, go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here.

You should also grab the latest patch from the downloads page, since you're running v1.0.

Ha! A simple restart cleared it up. Boy dont I feel like a doofis... Thanks for the quick reply man, I was getting a little worried. With modern operating systems, its rare to ever need to do a restart so i didnt even think to try it.

Yeah patching is my next step. Just wanted to make sure I could get it running correctly before proceeding as few patches (that ive seen so far) will fix specific issues like this. Anyway thank you again man!

Well since the introduction of Windows NT, the operating system is able to do a refresh of the registry "on the fly". Previous to NT, any changes to the registry wouldnt be loaded untill a restart was done. To be honest, I havent needed to restart this machine for some weeks now. This is the first app Ive seen in years to require a full restart (other than virus scanners of course but they requre special acess to the OS during bootup).

This issue only occurs to some people (it's a DirectX thing, IIRC). Most don't need to reboot after installation. And while the registry may be able to be hot-modded, you still need to reboot for most changes that involve any drivers or system files.
