Stardock Easter Holiday

Stardock will be closed for Easter weekend starting on Friday, April 3rd and we will be returning on Tuesday, April 7th. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time, but expect delays in responses during this time.

Every game I have tried to play I would get to a certain point and then it would start crashing every 10 minutes. It doesn't seem to matter what I am doing it will crash, colonize a planet...crash, access the shipyard...crash, open the civilization manager...crash, sit there staring at the screen trying to decide what to do next...crash.

For those of you that have a stable game and can enjoy it, I envy you. As for me, I am going to keep an eye out for patches but in the meantime I am going to hide this thing in a dark corner some place and slap my hands when I feel the urge to boot it up.

*For the devs* Please fix this silly thing!

It would help us fix your issue if you provide us some information about it. Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

from what you said... it sounds like ITS YOUR FAULT. sounds like your comp is over heating...

do as kyro said post your debug.

Another way to document any problems you are having is to download 'SmartException' from Stardock. (free) Let it run while you play. When the game crashes, it will record the facts. Follow the instructions on the screen, and e-mail to Stardock. Easier for you, but will take a bit more time. The quickest way would still be to post the debug.err, as many of us here have become rather adept at reading them, and you will have an answer much sooner. GC is a pretty stable program, all in all, so I can say with some authority that the problem is on your end.

Could be inadequate case ventilation. Does your computer crash on other graphic intensive applications that run for long sessions? Other games?

I can sympathize with you. I had many, many issues trying to get this game to run right when I first got it and honestly it probably took about a month to get things resolved. The game still gives me problems from time to time, but it is now quite rare, knock on wood. Don't get upset at the people who may be saying "it's your fault", because it doesn't matter who is at fault, you just want to play, correct? Take the other's advice about posting a debug file, unless you think you can handle figuring out your own system. Be persistent, because the game is awesome once it runs right. Even if you have to break out the cat o'nine tails and add the razor barbs to the tips and flog yourself silly, it's worth persisting! Seriously, send in a debug, it may be something stupid.

First of all, I don't think you know what "begs the question" means. Go google it.

Second, promoting alternative operating systems outside of what SD will support is not the way to help this guy.

I can sympathise with you. I had some what similar issues that were (cross fingers) 100% resolved by the upgrade to v1.4. Have played 3 complete games and no crahes. If you have not done the uograde I would highly recommend that you do.

If it's overheating, get a better fan
If it's particising (that is going wackey), get a better graphic's card
If it's lagging like hell, get a better CPU or RAM

Ponit is get the debug then we can help you

I ran into this problem also. Is was a combination of only having an onboard graphics controler instead of a video card (compaq), and over heating. Make sure the fan inside your power supply is working (mine wasn't).

I opted for a new system.
