It is the McDonalds. I 'acquired' this planet from the Arceans. I already had nano recorders, hyper computers, and the Omega research center. Omega had already been built or I would have scrapped the resturant (if you could) and built the Omega on this planet.

Just for yuks here's a couple of sceenshots from the end of my last game. The first is the first page of my colony list sorted by research. The second is the first page of my colony list sorted by income. Keep in mind that this was at the end of a v1.31 game where I was evil and had 4 research resources and 6 economic resources. I've found thing's like this are extremely helpful in bettering my game. Just the fact that something is possible is sufficient. Everyone is smart enough to figure out how to replicate it once they know such a thing is possible.

When I first started playing I never used anything but resource starbases. I did not realize that I was actually crippling myself by not doing so. If there is any doubt about this topic all you have to do is look above.

Each type of star base has its advantage. Some will argue this one or that one is worthless, the point is you have to use them the way they were designed. Each has a use. Some will work for your strategies, some will not. My suggestion, is use them if you can.

Do you play on very slow tech rate?

Very Fast.

You can only have 4 starbases per sector, that's why there lined up along the edge of the sectors, to be able to influence the planet from that sector.

For these type of research juggernaut planets, which would be better? A PQ38 planet or a PQ26+50%research planet?

Hm, if that is the case, then the PQ26+50% research would be better since it would a shorter amount of time to build up and have less maintenance cost.

I still wouldn't complain about either planet. A plain old PQ32 with no research or planet quality bonus is pretty damn good. You're by no means guaranteed to get even one of these in a gigantic galaxy. Be thankful for what you can get and make the best of it.

I thought PQ26 was the highest you find and any higher would be result of PQ bonuses.

PQ26 *is* the highest you find without bonuses. But a PQ26 turns into a PQ32 if neutral or once all terraforming techs are researched. These are invariably around purple stars.

The exception to the rule is the star Primus that has strange properties. I've seen a screen shot of a PQ56 around Primus. I've also seen screen shots of a PQ40 around an ordinary yellow star. Strange things do happen.
