Request for Event removal from the game

Just the one please :)

I am formally requesting on behalf of many players that the "Attack PC and Meltdown CPU" event be removed from the game!!

This event is the one spawned when a foreign leader is assassinated and a private 'army' comes to the new leaders aid after they declare war on you. This usually ends up spawning 1000+ ships on a gigantic map and literally shuts the game down as most processors cannot deal with the huge no.s of ship moves.

Maybe one of the other gamers here can tie down the event to the exact wording for you, but please consider removing this event as having to CTRL+ALT+DEL to shut down the game is very annoying. Esp late in the game!!

One player in my forums has just had the event and over 4000 ships were spawned!!!!

I have had this event in GC I, but not in GC II. But, in either case, this type of event is really an "abort play" type of event and should be removed. The assination is fine, but the flooding of the map with tiny ships adds nothing to the game. Now, if instead of millins of tiny ships, add a fleet of super powerful ones, that could be interesting where you might have to use up several of your best fleets to destroy the private army. It is not the event, but the spawning of hundres or thousands of worthless ships that is the problem.

The assassinated leader event is fine by itself. However every now and again it teams-up with this other event that causes the issue above.

I have had the event 3 or 4 times, and it never bothered my processor.

It was a chore to send ships to vacuum clean the entire galaxy, though.

All the AI's ships move at once, so it really does not take any more time. And they usually only have a speed of three, so they are no great threat. More of a giant pain in the rear.

I usually carry on with the war for a few weeks, take out a hundred or so of them, then offer peace. Then the Terrans have to reel in all those ships and figure out something usefull for them to do.

Well, after 20 minutes of it trying to figure out what to do with the 4000 ships it had generated, and launching a few hundred individual attacks against my fleets, I just killed the process.

Seriously, what good is it sending an attack 2 ship against a fleet of attack 500+, defense 300+ dreadnoughts a few hundred times.

The event is just an annoyance that serves no purpose. If it happened in the early game when the ships were capable of damaging your own ships, then it would be game ending due to the sheer volume of them. By all means, leave the assassination event in and give them a good quality fleet or 2 like the pirates get and let us get on with the game.

If your computer cant handle a gigantic galaxy with 1000+ ships, why the hell play on a gigantic galaxy in the first place??
Why not a large 1 instead???

Another solution is to upgrade your CPU, since most cheap CPU's available today would eat this game for breakfast.

I do have had leaders assasinated, but don't think a private army came onto the scene. (Although that did not seem to hamper the war effort of the others, I went from war with the Drath because of a misunderstanding or assasination to war with everyone but the Arceans who were allied with me, and is the reason why everyone else went to war with me when I honored the alliance treaty.) Only way I managed out of that mess was winning a Tech Victory, while all ships were decimated, as well as my economy.

Personally, I think the sudden appearance of the Vengeance ships is rather silly. A leader gets assassinated, so suddenly there are hundreds or thousands of ships ready to avenge his death everywhere in the galaxy? Giving them a production or soldiering bonus for the duration of the war would make a lot more sense. Plus, as noted already, except for very early in the game, those little Vengeance ships are pretty much useless.

Also, I am a diplomat, builder and influencer in this game. For me, having a strong ally and/or neighbour suddenly turn into a vengeful enemy is already enough of a setback, without adding warships everywhere on the map. If this event has to remain, I would ask for the Vengeance ships to be removed, and for the event to be limited to one time per attacked player.

Also, you could mod it yourslef, or ask some1 to do it and release it to the library, you tryed that yet?? You know I LIKE this event, it spices the game, and it runs fine and dandy on my comp, so no need to make every1 elses game and make it less spicy cuz your computer cant habdle it, thats why games come with a list of required hardware on the back or bottom of the game BOX or case.And did you know that you can AVOID IT in the first place, just spend enough money on espionage to stop it from happening. Another thing that can make it occur, is if you were spending you spend lots of money on a few turns on espionage and turn down the budget drastically on 1 turn, that has happened to me be4 and now if Im going to lower espionage spending, Ill do it slowly and carefully

Another tip is to NEVER stop spending on espionage, even if you reached advanced, bad events can be on the horizon and you wont see them without agents ont he ground, so keep spending even if just 1 or 2 nothces from 0.

oh my, interesting, Ive had it numerous times, guess that is cuz you spend on spies continuously???

On GalCiv 1 I had this thing happen ALL THE TIME, so thats why I learned to use the damn spies, its not only for stats, numbers and % of their economy and military, it works for relations too. I just hope the new Spying system of DA turns out to expand this area, I'd love to win by destabilizing planets and defenses from the inside, and if done properly it would be a very kool way to win

1. Computer can handle gigantic galaxies with thousands of ships just fine thank you, but then you'd expect that with a 3.6Ghz P4, 4Gb ram and GeForce 7900 - which I think you'll find just about fulfills the hardware requirements. The problem is with the sudden AI initiation of hundreds of pointless attacks. Yes, I can switch the game to not show any battles, but why should a random event force a configuration change just to keep the game playable.

2. Metaverse game - so mods not possible, or maybe you didn't know that.

3. Espionage already at advanced with continued spending - so that is pure BS. It is a random event that can happen anytime, anywhere.

1-Sorry, didnt expect to hurt your feeling or anything, but that was responding to the OP.
2- Yes I knew, but if you dont want to play with the original game's settings, then play with a mod on "offline" mode. Sorry, you need to make a compromise, game rules on metavers, or your rules WITHOUT metavers,period.
3- Whatever you say, it works for me, I dont espect every1 that reads my comments to follow them, Im not pointing a gun at your face,Am I?? no need for childish stuff like BS!111!.

No, Im not saying that, im saying they'll prevent the Mad, Crazy, Derranged Office clerk from doing it in the first place cuz you'll have Eyes and Ears everywhere.

Regarding the actual topic, I think it could be cool if it was a mix of fighters and transport ships, maybe even just holding a couple hundred troops each. That way, if you have a bunch of undefended planets (like I usually do) I suddenly have a threat of a thousand invading ships picking away at my undefended colonies.

I want the event left in. It can be modded later. I've had it happen several times and it hasn't effected my computer. (System: Athlon 64 3000+ Ge-Force Fx 5200 1536 Ram) I like it.

Never had this happen to me, and last night.. my my first 1.3 huge galaxy game... every Ai is gifted... I encountered Pirates.. that's right.. and I saw them. Man... took me a while to clean them up, thnk god they didn't have any colony ships with them, they cleared a small cluster of my planets before I got aid to them.

Ok, so some people enjoy that event, some don't. Personally I hate it. It always happens when everything is running fine, as if the programmers thought I'd be bored in that situation. Why not create a mod or something to deactivate that particular event?

Btw, it's not that I want nothing happening to me, I enjoy an occasional pirate-fleet destroying half of my stuff

But those little vengeance ships are just annoying, they never managed to hurt me at all, they just make every turn last an hour (not because my hardware can't manage them, but because every single one of those 5000 ships attack some random outpost of mine without the slightest chance)
And yes, I do use spies, happens anyway, preferably with my best allies, which just makes it more annoying, random and stupid.

That event is the ONLY one that gets me to ALT-F4 this great game.

Why not have some ppl you know get together, and make it yoursleves??
I dont know anything about modding, but is it so difficult to eliminate just 1 event?????, its not like your changeing the game's code or anything THAT big, just change a word here and there on the .xml

Maybe Master U knows how to do that and can help?? But I guess he full of work by now

I've had the event on a gigantic galaxy, and yes, wimpy 'Vengence' ships showed up all over the place. But only about 1 or 2 per sector which is about 250 - 500 ships. Fortunately, I didn't have a bunch of unguarded transports, constructors, starbases, colony ships, or freighters around (within their range, anyway) so they were really just a nuisance. And after 'vacuuming' my general vicinity, and getting peace, they just sat there.

Since a gigantic galaxy is 18x18 sectors, and each sector is 15x15 parsecs, the total # of squares is 72,900. 5000 ships is about 1 for every 15 squares, or 15 per sector. (When I had this happen, the vengence ships didn't fleet up.)

My question is (and please don't take this wrong....) Are you SURE the ~5000 # of ships is literal, or has some 'exaggeration for effect' been employed? If the number is literal, I suggest that some throttling of the possible number of ships may be in order.

My feelings on this particular event are that the vengence ships should either disappear after peace with the offended power has been achieved or peace should be impossible until all of the vengence ships have been destroyed or otherwise disposed of (like maybe an option to buy to soothe hurt feelings). An alternative would be that peace with the offended power is possible, but the vengence ships don't accept it, so they go pirate against you. Still a nuisance, but at least you can do business with the government.

Monclova34 you are missing the point here. Yes we could mod it out the game. Hell thats easy to do! But if we mod it out the game then we cant play MV games and that is what we want to do here.

Removing the event would be quicker for Stardock than altering it which is why we are asking for its removal at this stage.

PS not all of us have state-of-the-art PC's and an older pc (inside the min specs for this game) should not be penalised by ONE event!

you can mod the events.xml, then that event will be off for non MV games, if we want to mod that in the metaverse, we should mod the metaverse files, but you don't want to take a risk and have a "cheat flag" right next to you game right?

and yes, if StarDock were modding this and release it in the next beta or even Dark Avatars's new versions (2.1) it won't effect the metaverse as DG want it, for now, the best you could all do is to (if you don't want to use it as a mod) backup the original file and delete the event in the events.xml, then you can always get it back, and you don't use a mod
