upgrading buildings.

ok i just noticed this....


dunno how it goes with other buildings, probably the same....

I have a stock market on a tile, I decide to change it to an industrial sector....


If I click on the stock market, select industrial sector in the right hand margin and click buy, it would cost me around 4300 to change it to an I.S


now then if I click 'upgrade' then click the tile again and click buy, it only costs 2500.


why is this?

is it a bug?

It's the same with upgrading a factory to a higher level factory. The buy price is lower if it is set to upgrade first.

Perhaps the upgrade buy price takes into account building materials already present in the existing building, and a straight buy-up-front price does not?

That's the way I've always thought of it.

Upgrading within the same type (factory to enhanced factory for example) gets you full credit for the previous building. (eg if the upgrade is a 200 cost building and the original a 100 cost, you'll only have to pay 100 extra) Conversion to another type of building does not get full credit. I have no idea how it works, but some buildings seem to convert better than others. Factories into entertainment buildings seems quite effective, for example. I *think* that (in rare cases) it's actually cheaper to demolish and rebuild than convert.

yeah, i guess thats the mechanics of the game, but i think when you click buy it should just take into consideration then materials that are already there.

its no problem clicking upgrade then buy, just if you can click buy without upgrade, it saves you a click which = around 0.3 seconds time saved.
