I have to admit that I'm awestruck by some of the ships I see on https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=162&aid=104951&p=2 that people have created.

For my part I'm too busy playing the game - so while I enjoy adding new technologies to my ships, they don't resemble works of art by a long shot.

Yet I would love to include other peoples designs in my game.

Would it be possible for this site to have a large repository of ships that we could scroll through and download?

I was thinking something like:

On the main menu screen, and again in the ship construction screen, you would have a button that says "download designs". After clicking on this the game would allow access to a repository of available ships to download. You could sort by "pack", ship type, speed, race, name, creator, date done, number of components (for low end systems) etc. Obviously you'd be able to sort it down on several fields - e.g. type of ship AND speed.

If wanting to create a new design using the technology available to you just now (i.e your accessing this from the shipyard screen) you can narrow it down to show only the ships that your able to build immediately, using the technology that you've researched.

The ships is then downloaded to your pc.

I'd love to be able to do this. I know that there are "mod" things - but that's a lot more complicated than I want to get into - and too time consuming.

I'd guess ship creators would equally be able to upload their designs so that everyone can use them. It might be worth allowing users the ability to rate and comment on designs to give creators feedback (and everyone could see how many times each ship has been downloaded). Creators would be able to name the ship, class and provide a description, though I guess that a user could overright these on his or her machine.

Another cool thing would be if you could - from within the shipyard - select a basic hull then add everything you want into it, and then click on a button for "alternate designs". This button would search for other peoples design that use the exact same raw components (as in milliles, engines, hull size) BUT that look different.

Any chance of this ever happening?
