It would be smarter if the AI put a farm and maybe 2-3 markets, instead of no farm and 7 markets.
The higher population will increase income a lot better than just more econ buildings. Plus it would make it much harder to invade and take planets.
Building that many econs is shooting ones own foot. Sure, you can buy ships more, but if you can't research fast enough you fall behind very quickly. And loading up the planet with econ leaves no room to buy any buildings anyway. So is the strategy now to just buy military ships in droves?
It doesn't work. By the time I get attacked my ships outclass theirs so far it is pathetic. Simple numbers won't do it if the fleets total attack is less than my single ships defenses.
And this last game they have been building too many econs as well. It didn't show up as much early in the game, but by the time the Drengin attacked me and I began to take developed planets it was obvious, although not quite as bad as that first game with this version.
This version is far less of a challenge, I think.
