unable to run game

I run the game normaly, and the screen turns black and I see the mouse cursor... then the screen blinks and I'm back on my Windows desktop.

I've tried many times even reinstalling the game but it won't run.

Please go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\Totalgaming\GalCiv2 (or wherever you installed the game at), open the debug.err file you find there in notepad, and copy/paste the contents into a post here. This will give us some technical information that can help troubleshoot your problem.

GC2 requires to have a 32 bit color depth. You need to change that

You may also try setting GC2 to the same resoultion as your desktop. Go to My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2 (if you cannot find this folder, just do a serach on your machine for this file), open the file prefs.ini and a few lines down from the top you will find:

DisplayWidth=1024
DisplayHeight=768

Change those to:

DisplayWidth=1280
DisplayHeight=1024

Thank you for the information in this post. It was very instrumental in playing my game. My old computer died and I replaced my Windows XP with XP X64. This has been a great source of pain getting everything else up and running again. However your suggestions on this post, changing the display size to match the screen resolution I was actually using, did the trick. I was also following the thread on STICKY: Dual core machines which was also very helpful.
