Star Density

So I'm looking at the button, and I think to myself "They could do so much with that option alone...."

Sure we have Clusters(loose and tight), and just randomly scattered. But why not galaxies in different actual paterns? We could have various styles of 'arm' galaxies. We could have a galaxie in a shape of an 'o' with nothing in the center, or all the stars crowded right in the middle. Or tightly packed stars in the center of the map which disperse outwards towards the edges.

That's what scenarios are for. You can make a scenario and put stars wherever you'd like.

Yes, but a scenario can't be scored for metaverse.

Oh wow, I really really like that idea. It would be so fun actually having a map that actually resembles a galaxy. I fully support this idea 100%.

The proplem is, I think, is that even a Gigantic map cannot convey the immensity of the entier galaxy. I always saw the maps as portions of the Galaxy.

Agreed. It's not even close. That would be quite superficial, though it could be cool if you weren't interested in realism. By the way, try playing with almost everything on random. I've had some very interesting set-ups with that. Sometimes there are large swaths with no stars at all, then there will be a cluster or two. Makes for interesting strategy, though it can be hard if you start out in a corner with no other planets anywhere close to you. Well, if your people suddenly entered the space age, they might in fact find themselves in such a situation.

Add in the fact that a real galaxy is 3D not 2D, minnor issue if you ask me. Someday there will be a turn based space stratigy game in 3D that will have all space battles controled by the player and in 3D as well. I can dream can't I?

Considering that galaxys are made up of millions of stars I would think the maps are only small local parts of a galaxy and that inculdes the largest maps.

Have you seen the Eve-Online map? That's quite impressive: almost 1/100,000th the size of the Milky Way!

I like to look at the maps as being entire galaxies. All the stars plotted on the current chart I am playing are key for one reason or another, even if the solar system harbors no habitable planets. I imagine there are other systems within the galactic realm in which I am currently playing, but none of them hold any value, therefore are not charted. My imagination, My rules! hehe
