GalCiv Launcher won't launch

Whenever I double click the desktop shortcut for the game the launcher doesn't come out. Instead the screen goes black and the mouse pointer for the game comes out, then it goes back to my desktop and that's it. I installed the game without putting in the serial code since I didn't realize you needed it to get updates and now that I want to input it the launcher doesn't want to come out so I can't input it. Help!

Have you tried going to the folder you installed the game at and running GalCiv2.exe directly?

^ Yup! Tried running it from the folder itself and the launcher still won't come out. It still goes to the black screen with the GalCiv pointer and afterwards back to my desktop.

I'm running Sygate Personal Firewall and Norton Anti-virus w/ latest updates. OS is Window 2000 w/ latest service pack. Maybe this info will help...or not...oh well...

If you've tried running GalCiv2.exe directly (that is the game itself, not the launcher) then you should have a debug.err file in the same directory with your system info and debug messages from however far it got trying to start up. If you post the contents of that file here it cna help us figure out your problem.

^ Ok, i'll try re-installing first since I just uninstalled it. I'll post the debug.err file if the problem persists.

You may need to tell your antivirus program to ignore GC2Launcher.exe. Some virus scans have been known to block this program.

If that is the case, you should still be able to launch galciv2.exe from your galciv2 folder. You can make a shortcut to this file if you want.

If, when you run galciv2.exe, you get a black screen and the program crashes back to the desktop, please look in your c:/program files/stardock/totalgaming/galciv2 folder.
There should be a file called debug.err. Open that file in Notepad, copy the contents, and post them in this thread.

alex2506: first thing you should do is update to version 1.2. Right now you're running 1.0, and it's easier to troubleshoot if we can discount things that have already been fixed on our end.
