I'm not sure how many old school gamers there are but one of my all time favorites back when I gamed on a Amiga desktop was : Battletech : Crescent Hawk's Inception.
It was a turnbased rpg/strategy type of game where you could control more then one person/mech later on. Since then no one has ever attempted to make a game like this.
I noticed how the majority so far has been RPG and Strategy/Turn Based. Why not combine those as did the Crescent Hawk game.

One of my main things tho in games is the ability to salvage, steal, take by force, discover via hidden cache, relic, or whatsoever means obtaining ships, mechs!
See: Pirates!, X2,X3, Battletech: CHI, Homeworld series, even the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms strategy series by Koei where you can capture generals/heros, persuade them to join your side as a permanent unit, bribe them, spread rumors to break their loyalty to help bribe, persuade etc. Imprison to break them to join you. I want a game where if I see something I could theoretically take - I can take!
