When you conquer a civ do you get their $$ ?

When you completely Annihilate another civ, do you get the credits they had in their reserves?..Or do the reserves just evaporate into thin air.

If not, I'd like to make a suggestion for Dark Avatar......

In real life, an invading force usually takes the riches of the invaded land. It should be the same (IMO) in GC2.

Well, a low random percentage of it should be plundered IMHO. This could be displayed in a box as part of the victory conditions.

When u conquer a races capital world I think u should get all of there treasury. The capital world is special, its the centre of your civilization, the heart of your empire. It should be protected at nearly any cost, if u were to lose all your treasury, I think u would protect it all the more.

You also lose the trade between it and your planet, which doesn't make sense because there shouldn't be any reason why trade should stop after conquest. Effectively, conquering a civilisation can send you broke...?an issue to be addressed in 1.3?

the funds in these empires are all on computers not in cash

so the cash would just disappear

unless it is backed by something real

USA currency isn't

Money in the defeated races accounts would be in their currency, without a nation to back it up that currency would be worthless, wether it was in electronic or paper form. If you really want to make yourself feel better just imagine yourself with a mountain of paper money that no one else in the world wants (assuming other races have no need for toilet paper).

Unless the whole galaxy has the same currency, plus there prbly is something backing it up or else it would be worthless anyways and usa currency is backed up by gold in our treasury thats why we cant print endless amounts of it.

This was, repeat, was called the gold standard. In theory u could take a dollar into a bank and exchange it for a dollars worth of gold. That was abandoned decades ago because there is not enough gold on Earth to cover all the dollars in circulation. We now rely on good faith really. The reason banks do not just print loads of paper money is inflation (worthless money, price increases), extreme inflation (over 2.5% or so) is bad, very bad as our money becomes less valuble.

I think there should be an Alignment Question: When your troops are on the eve of total victory over a civilization, you are asked:

[InsertRaceHere] soldiers are spreading across our newly conquered territories, plundering all that can be found. What are your orders for this?

- Stop the looting and return the cash and property to their owners. We are an army, not a rabble. [- A shitload of cash]
- Stop the looting but keep whatever has already been taken. Their owners are likely dead anyway. [+ A small bit of cash]
- Shoping spree, boys! [+ A shitload of cash]

Granted that it either electronic or paper, so it would be worthless, but what about precious metals, gems, artwork, artifacts, etc. Certainly there would be someone somewhere who would pay for these goods.

So, perhaps the conquering civ should be able to convert some of these items into cash, even if it is indirect (auction, pawn shop,black market etc)

1. You already get the assets of a conquered civ - their planetary improvements

2. The US went off the Gold Standard in 1972 or 74 - BTW, from 1933 until then it was illegal for US citizens to own gold other than US coins minted prior to 1933. Other countries could redeem dollars for gold ($35/troy oz). Today, nobody's currency has a physical backup - it's all based on faith (believe it or not )

3. The plundering question should have offsetting soldiering bonuses/penalties recognizing the "rabble effect"

Currently when a race surrenders to another, the second race gets their planets. In addition they should also get their starbases, ships, technology, and star maps.

Here is a thread I created back in May discussing "The Fortunes of War" https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=251&aid=119158#933761

You also lose the trade between it and your planet, which doesn't make sense because there shouldn't be any reason why trade should stop after conquest.

The trade may be with a race you are at war with.

You can make plenty of cash by extortion see how much of there treasury they are prepared to hand over in exchange for the peace treaty they are desperate for. I have found it tends to be most or all of it. Then when you have bled them dry conquer them completely if you are evil enough or want to remove the civilization.

Also consider the spoils of war to be the worlds you take with most of there installations intact.
