This is a mod I have been making for a decent amount of time. It's not all that hard, it just requires a huge amount of time because of the sheer number of techs that let ships be upgraded in some way. This is my attempt to alleviate the annoyance of constantly creating new ship designs. They will be available for you as you research the right techs, and they will not be inferior as the GC2 starting ships were.
This mod is not complete, and I will slowly complete it as I play the game because I am just tired of going through all the techs.
What's missing?
1. For a few ships I skipped a tech or two. You'll notice what ship(s). If you fix these ships please send them to me using the correct naming convention (I'll get to that in a minute). I will add it to the mod and give you credit.
2. I did not make ships to cater to those who use completely offensive configurations. If you add these configurations, please send me them using the correct naming convention and I will add it to the mod. You will be given credit.
3. The larger ship hulls start off with better configs. This is usually fine, but depending on how you research, you may be limited to smaller hulls but have superior weaponry. If you make a config that allows a large hull with inferior weaponry, send me it with the correct naming convention and I will add it to the mod. You will be given credit.
The naming convention:
Ships are titled in the following manner:
Classes are: Light, Medium, Heavy, Superior. There's also a flagship class (the strongest ship in the mod).
Name's are (for Military): Fighter, Frigate, Destroyer, Cruiser, BattleCruiser.
For civilian: Freighter, Colony Ship, Transport (there's no combat transport at the moment), Surveyor, and Constructor.
How the naming for a ship is determined (this is from memory, so bear with me):
The ship tag is determined by miniaturization.
No Miniaturization: Only basic civilian ships can be built.
Basic Miniaturization: Light military craft can be built, granted the technology is available (I will get to that).
Enhanced Miniaturization: Medium military craft can be built, granted the tech is available.
Superior Miniaturization: No change.
Supreme Miniaturization (I'm sure it's not called this. It gives a 20% bonus.): Heavy Military craft can be built, granted the tech is available.
Ultimate Miniaturization: Superior Military craft can be built, granted the tech is available.
If you get that last 15% bonus from the wonder that does that (hyperion something I'm sure.) you get the flagship. It's pretty much unstoppable, as it has huge attack and quite decent defense. No matter the weapon hitting it, it's defense adds up to about 28. No single shot from a weapon is strong enough to kill it instantly. Seeing as how it has 175~ (Can't recall exact value) damage in different weapon areas, nothing would easily survive a first hit. It costs an arm and a leg, of course.
Generations are: 2G..XG, where X is a value <=10 (at the moment).
A generation is determined by tech advancements. For light craft, it's usually just an advancement in the weapon tech tree (I rarely count Mk. weapons, but when their damage increases I usually do). For medium and heavy craft, other factors play a role. Generations do not apply to civilian craft.
Civilian craft increase only by class, but the class naming convention is a bit different. They are named the following way: Basic, Enhanced, Advanced, Superior.
In order to advance to the next class level, better miniaturization, range, and propulsion tech must be looked into.
I also modified the cost times for defenses, as I believe them to be too expensive. I decreased all of them by 20%. I will not include this change, but I suggest you do the same, otherwise the larger ships might be a bit too expensive for some of you.
Here is a temporary link until my friend uploads it on his ftp:
http://ilja.wz.cz/data/shipmod.rar
Extract it to: ?:\Documents and Settings\My Profile\My Documents\My Games\GalCiv2
?=w/e your drive name is.
If anyone has any information on how I might disable the ships provided by GC2 for a certain ship design tell me so I can add that into the mod. There are too many designs otherwise, in my opinion.
Enjoy, and PLEASE complain! I like to fix stuff
